we wanted to stay overnight in aguas calientes to be able to go to machu picchu early in the morning to beat the crowd. we had a clean and comfortable room. shower had hot water. we love the breakfast with fresh bread and juice. walking distance from train station and  also to the bus station going to machu picchu. there are many restaurants and souvenir shops nearby. there was a little issue with noise coming from outside because our room is near ballpark. there was a soccer game that night. we were able to leave our luggage after checking out.

This place was a little unusual from the start. Upon our arrival the door was wide open and we had access to any room in the building as no one was at the desk (and all the keys were there in plain sight) and no one came when we ran the bell and waited for 10 minutes. After waiting we then checked each floor of the hostel shouting "hello?" until we heard someone far off say “just a minute." Five minutes later when we started wondering if that voice wasn't in this building and began calling again a woman popped out of one of the rooms in a towel asking what we needed. Obviously we had been waiting to check in for over 20 minutes now with no one in sight, so her response seemed strange (along with the fact that she was in a towel). She said to give her a minute and went back in the room to change.

Someone else arrived from outside at the same time the previously towel-clad woman finally came to help us after waiting almost 30 minutes. And everyone was completely unapologetic to the fact we were sitting around waiting for a room in an unsecured hostel after walking through town with our stuff from our train ride exhausted. 

In non-service related news, the place is fairly cute and clean with nice views of the river and mountain (though probably every place in town has good views). The hot water is spotty and it seemed they had to turn it on every time we wanted to shower (they didn't mention this and they probably should have so we could've just known from the beginning instead of having to ask each time it wasn’t working).

As mentioned, the main problem we noticed was that someone could have easily come and stolen a bunch of stuff from any guest here because the place was unstaffed and unsecured for such an unusually large period of time. (I should say that we were told Aguas Calientes is super safe because the town is so small, but still...).

One nice thing -- we went to Machu Picchu early in the morning and check-out time was 9 or 10am, but they said we could pay a little more and come back after and check out at 2pm. Not a bad deal. Better than paying for a whole extra night.

Cute-ish, clean, not secure, not great service

I stayed there in Apr 2012 for a short night in the hostel.
Our trained arrived AC at around 9pm.  We arranged free pick-up and the lady was punctual.
The room was very basic and looked like it needed to be renovated.  It didn't look comfortable.  We're glad that we're just staying for several hours.  The bathroom had a very big open window without any frame or glass or curtain.  We needed to use a towel to cover it up.  The water was hot enough.
We requested for early breakfast at 5am and it was there as promised.  
Overall speaking, if you're just staying for a short sleep, it's OK.  If you'd stay for a bit longer, I'd suggest you to look for another one.

A very basic hostel

We booked this hostel even though we saw some bad reviews because we thought that we will only use it for some hours to sleep and leave really early in the morning. Big mistake! At first, it was extremely hard to find, even if it was in an obvious position. We could not find any signs for the address and we asked more than 5 people but nobody knew this place or the address. Then, the woman in the reception did not speak english and was unable to locate our reservation. It took some time for her to find out what was happening and she made some phone calls but nothing... So then she escorted us to a nearby hotel to stay there. Really unprofessional service! Don't stay here!

Unprofessional service

They were unable to locate my reservation, even though I booked two rooms for 4 persons in advance through Hotelsone.com. When I showed my confirmation emails with reservation number and everything, they kept saying "we don't have your reservation." They only could give us one small room with four beds and charged the same price. There are so many pedestrians walking by the hotel and noises all night keep all of us unable to sleep. When I ask for a remote control for the television, they said they didn't have it and couldn't do anything about it. The breakfast is terrible and the room stinks. There's nothing good to say about this place. Stay out of it!
