When I lived in Kenya, I used to book Mukima House for a group of friends. It’s now a hotel and it’s just as lovely. We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas night there and had a lovely chill time, enjoying  the beautiful ground, the swimming pool, the tennis court, a nice massage and walks around. The staff are lovely and kind. And the Manor is just gorgeous.. it was a perfect stop over place between samburu and the Aberdares. Thank you, Kui and team, for another memorable stay.

From the Manager to the waiter and other staff, they performed their duties to my utmost satisfaction. The room was clinically clean, including the fixtures.  The food was good and the fruits and vegetables were fresh.  The scenery is breath taking.

Mukima House is a beautiful sanctuary. The manicured gardens with Mt. Kenya as its backdrop is breathtaking. The decor of the manor is elegant and refined: curated with intention. The staff and management also uphold the feeling of Mukima, through being outstanding and welcoming hosts. 

Our stay at Mukima House allowed us to connect with nature in quietude. The food was fresh, beautifully presented and exceptionally tasty. Thank you for a restorative stay.

We stayed at the boathouse and had a phenomenal experience on the Mukima house estate / conservancy.  The food was especially great and the staff were really friendly and  helpful, the sauna and pool were lovely and the grounds were super tranquil and pretty. We’d love to stay again!

My partner and I visited early October and the staff were nothing short of amazing! The boat house was cozy and well equipped. We watched the birds, water bucks and the famous donkeys drinking from the dam on most mornings. Food was fresh and generous portions served. Directions to the place could be better though.Overall, it was an AMAZING... highly recommended for time out of the busy noisy cities

We had the most fantastic five days staying at Mukima House. The house itself and the grounds are stunningly beautiful and the surrounding nature reserve was perfect for our three days of horse riding. 
The whole team were so welcoming and attentive - nothing was too much trouble. 
The food was really delicious with plenty of options and I must say the samosas, chilli sauce and picnic quiche were the best I have ever tasted! The staff were so accommodating with our timings and changing plans and shipped in South African sparkling wine upon request. 
Mukima was the perfect base for our adventures with plenty of activities and conservancies nearby. 
We will certainly be back!

Kui was very responsive as we prepared for our visit.  The staff who cooked, served us, and cleaned, were incredibly helpful and friendly.  The food was delicious, plenty of it.  We love the rooms, the common spaces, the gardens - a lovely place to have meetings.

Mukima House is a magical place.  We had a wonderful time and loved the excellent service and meals. The views of Mount Kenya are amazing and we enjoyed the beautiful grounds. We loved sitting outside on the veranda taking in the stunning surroundings. A big thank you to the Mukima team for taking such good care of us during our stay. I am most grateful for the care and respect you all gave to my mother. We look forward to staying at Mukima House again!

We have just returned from the most magical stay. Kui and Paul and the rest of the team provided us with the most exceptional level of service and seemed genuinely happy to help with everything we needed. The food is incredible! We also travelled with 4 young children and their needs were also very well catered for. The grounds and beautiful with the donkeys and so many birds and bitings under the stars as the sun goes down. Where else can you enjoy safari, mount kenya, sun, tennis, pool, croquet and massages in the day, and then enjoy dinner with a log fire in the most stunning house in the evening. It was perfect and we hope to return one day. Thank you 

Went here for a senior leadership retreat - was perfect as we had many kids with us! Plenty of space for them to run around, watch TV, play games in the garden and go fishing! Kui and the team did a great job trying to accommodate us.

Fabulous in every way

Mukima house is quite spectacular and took our breath away the moment we drove in and caught the first glimpse. It was nothing like what we have experienced before!

Massive gardens, beautifully decorated rooms (some with fireplaces and freestanding baths!), delicious well thought out meals, wonderful service, loads of activities to keep us and the children busy – it was literally the perfect escape!
The house was very easily accessible and not too far from Nanyuki town, but far enough for us to feel like we were in the wild. Kui, the house manager, gave us a very warm welcome with hot towels and fresh juice followed by a grand tour of the house. Mukima House gives out their entire 9-bedroom house on exclusive use when they have a group booking of a minimum of 5 adults, which is a huge advantage and made it feel very private, and comfortable, especially since we are in the midst of a pandemic. We got to choose our rooms and were quite spoilt for choice. The Master Room that we chose on the upper floor, was nicely furnished with lovely details, a fireplace, and had breathtaking views of the gardens, the lake and Mt. Kenya in the distance. Kui meticulously and patiently planned our meals together with us for our stay during our first meal, so everything was perfect during our stay. The chef was beyond brilliant and the flavours and variety he delivered, exceeded our expectations. A special mention to the delicious mushrooms served at breakfast on both days, the yummy feta cheese samosas at tea time and the falafel with hummus, and roast chicken that was served at lunch.

One simply could not get bored at Mukima House. There were so many activities we could enjoy, including croquet, badminton, tennis courts, the swimming pool, nature walks, fishing & boating in the lake within the property and a Netflix TV room within the house. Or one could just relax in one of the many cozy nooks spread inside and outside the house and enjoy the stunning views, fresh air, while trying to spot some of the varied amount of birdlife that come to the house or the waterbuck that seem to love roaming around in the gardens.

We were so well look after and were very sad to leave. We felt like Mukima was really a ‘home-away-from-home’. We have travelled extensively in Kenya and Mukima House was unanimously a favourite in our group. Special thanks to Kui & Paul and the entire team for the wonderful hospitality. We are counting the days until we can be back!

An enchanting home-away-from-home in Nanyuki!

We have stayed at Mukima House several times in large groups and most recently used the house to host our wedding.  Mukima is a one-of-a-kind place to share with family or friends for a few days  - a unique historic Kenyan building with stunning cedar wood and stylish details, a fantastic sweeping lawn to enjoy with views of Mt Kenya always on the horizon.  The property is a microcosm of the Laikipia area - with grassland, wetland, bush and forest all in a few hundred acres.  Evenings  are spent along the dam wall watching the birds fly in, and mornings walks or runs around the trails through the bush before breakfast.  

You book the whole house and arrange catering with the team to your taste - they are super helpful, cook up a feast every meal and will help arrange trips in the area if needed.  There is lots to do in Laikipia and this is a good and very comfortable base for excursions!  Asanteni sana to the team who hosted us, and we look forward to our next visit!

A wonderful place to gather friends and family in the shadow of Mt Kenya

My husband and I had our wedding here on New Year's Eve and it was simply magical. The team went above-and-beyond to make it an unforgettable time. This included the wedding itself, but also the day before, where they helped us organize a game drive and sundowner for 50+ of our guests, most of whom traveled from the U.S. and UK to celebrate with us. It is really like a second home to us and cannot recommend it enough for any special event where you want people to be together in an intimate setting. We continue to go back, staying in the boat house just the two of us. Truly one of Kenya's most special properties.

The Mukima house is not only an exceptional property but with amazing service and attention to detail - you have plenty of choices for nearby game drives and hikes or as wonderful is relaxing by the pool, playing tennis or going for a lovely walk around the property. The staff were always on hand for any requests and with breakfast, lunch, tea , sundowners and dinner you can manage the day around mealtimes:) The main house has been so beautifully restored and furnished with all comforts and it really does feel like a true out of Africa holiday.
