La Palms Hotel Nairobi

From January 2015 I have been using the hotel as a stopover during my business trips and I can say the service has greatly improved from the previous reviews. The restaurant is still Al carte and there is a quiet outdoor bar,and my room had hot shower,DSTV and the Wifi is working well and I was able to work from there. The hotel is gated providing a secure and homely feel abt it and the staff are honest and friendly. I communicated with the hotel directly and did not huge agent charges and they even organized a taxi for me.

Strategic for Business travel and on transit/stop over (Airport to Hotel 10 mins with a taxi)

The place looks unclean. Meals not worth the amount they charge and they take almost 2 hrs to prepare and not the 30 mins they tell one to wait! Staff also look tired{i came to learn from some that they are poorly paid and sometimes the salary is delayed for 3 months} Toilet tissue and soap was not available in the rooms. I heard several other guests complaining on the same! Bath towel was also not available. Halfway thru bathing, water in the shower dried up. I had to walk downstairs to the reception area to call for help. I talked to the manager who was of no help. She needs to be taught customer care!

Poor service

I prepaid for this hotel online.  I arrived late at night in Nairobi.  When I arrived at the hotel a woman came out of the hotel and met me in the parking lot as I was getting my bags out of the taxi.  She said "What are you doing here?"  I replied that I was checking in.  To which responded "We have not rooms."  I told her that is a problem because I prepaid online and I have the receipt.  I showed her the receipt and she said they have not booking for me and they could not take me.  In addition, what little I saw of the hotel it was dirty and small.  The staff seemed more occupied with sitting outside with each other laughing and joking than paying attention to their guests.  Do not use this hotel.

OK, I have been to hotels as bad as this one before, but they costed 5 dollars per night and not 70 dollars. I won´t even complain about the advertised TV and w-lan, that was not working. But we couldn´t take a shower because there was no water. We waited about 2 hours for our dinner because the ingrediants for the food had to be shopped first in the nearby supermarket as well as my 3 bottles of Tusker. Tusker nr. 4 I did not get, because they bought only 3 in the supermarket. The rooms were in a poor condition with plenty mosquitos, but had a large flat screen TV, that was of course not working. Toiletpaper and a 2nd towel (I booked a double room for me and my wife) was only supplied after request. The breakfirst was not ready in time and we had to leave without it, in order to reach our flight. That is also the only positive fact about this hotel. From there it takes only 15 to 20 minutes by car to the international airport (but at 5:00 in the morning!). The personal of the hotel was very nice and helpfull and they tried their best. But what can they do, when the owner of the hotel is a cheater and cheats guests and personal! Never again!

The fact that after booking the La Palm Hotel on arrival we were taken the another hotel. I am guessing the guy behind this booking.com account isn't actually selling the La Palm Hotel. We were taken to a completely different hotel (Airport View Hotel), where we had no running water (and please note that this was the most expensive hotel of our trip ($95/per room and 50usd transport costs) and the mosquito-net was full of holes. Also there is a noisy bar on the first floor, where we immediately ran into a bar-fight. When we wanted to complain the next day, the guy of course wasn't there. When we complained after returning home the guy (Kanzala Kana) promised us to pay us back a little of the money through paypal, which he never actually did. When I asked for transaction-id's eternal silence followed. So all with all, this place smells of deception. Please do not book this place as you might really regret it. And if you happened to book it already and the guy says there are some small changes, tell him it's not acceptable and give him the kind regards from me.
