1 review2-3/9/23 Saturday Night Room 503 at side We three middle aged guys from London wanted to extend our stay in BP another night in order to spend more time with our Hungarian friend. On Friday night we spent a long time trying to find somewhere suitable and affordable. We found this at a reasonable rate on B.c given it was a last minute Saturday night stay. We checked out of our (not listed on TA - Kalvaria) apartment at 10:00 and made our way across town on the no9 bus to check-in at 11:00 in the morning (rare and welcome so we did not have to haul our bags around town) in the 24hr reception. The receptionist was friendly and we let him take photos of each of our passports to check in. He directed us to room 503 on the 4th floor (Hungarian logic at work again!) via the lift up a short flight of stairs (why oh why - typical Hungarian logic again!). We exited the lift into a bit tatty corridor with an assortment of doors and locks to find our room, 503 on the right, which was fairly basic but it was clean and supplied with a kitchenette, three single beds, LED TV, tables and chairs. The corner by the door was the shower-room. The main room (ca 6x3m) with the kitchen corner had plenty of electric sockets for gadgets and device charging. A large openable window overlooked the space between the buildings. On arriving the room was hot and stuffy so opening the window cleared it. We do not use A/C on principle although a unit was on the wall by the window. The (pushed together) twin bed had a working bedside lamp (on a bedside table) by it. I bring my own small multi adapter if there are not enough sockets. A set of clean matching sheets, pillow, duvet and medium size towel were provided for each bed. The LED TV only showed only antennae channels so nothing in English and the film channels were dubbed to Hungarian. It had spare HDMI ports so could be used as a second monitor for a laptop for business use. Positioning it over the computer desk would make that easier as it is over the drawers at the mo. The shower-room had an old fashioned toilet system with the overhead cistern (blast from the past but leak proof flushing system!). The pan was German style (examine your stools for worms). The high head of water meant a single flush was enough! A black (why?) toilet brush was available. The flat of the (slightly cracked) pan could have done with a decalcifying treatment to improve the smoothness of the surface! There was a useful separate extractor fan switch. I never used the shower bu friends did and there were no complaints. Water pressure and hotness were not an issue in the standard 600x600mm shower tray. I did not get to have a shave either but the mirror above the sink seemed well lit enough. A shelf just underneath it was ok but awkward (as usual - who designs sink spaces?) to get your whole head above the sink while washing. The tap pressures seemed good enough to jet out a multi blade razor. There needs to be a hook on the inside of the door as the heated towel tail was not enough. After spending an evening watching Eroica in Heroes' Square we returned to relax and book ahead (on the very fast wifi). The room was stuffy again so we opened the big window but unfortunately there was a nearby smoker which meant cigar smoke wafted in, a bit irritating. Furthermore there was a group of noisy people (in a bar of the hotel?) below who talking into the night and later singing loudly into the small hours. I heard some attempts from someone trying to quieten them down to no avail. Oh well, it was a Saturday night! A local Lidl 200m down the road was very busy most of the time and open late (7-22) on the Saturday and early on the Sunday for fresh bread. We rose early and had coffee and breakfast on the small table (minus a third chair), washing up the full set of dishes and cutlery in the corner sink using the washing up liquid and scotchbrite type sponge and tea towel. A hob worked (for the coffee hot water in a saucepan) as well as a microwave (could have made tea in it) and a small fridge (with ice compartment but no ice tray) below. There was also a small frying pan available. The bin was under the sink. We recycled separately and dropped it all in the bins at the side of the hotel garden as we left (the manager thanked me for the effort). We checked out at 10:30 and made our way to the nearby bus stop on the parallel (one way different direction) Csanady Utca to get the 76 bus to Keleti Station for Eger.
