A German friend recommended a visit to Lake Balatonboglár while in Hungary. It is a low key place ideal for some kick-back time. I don’t know about the rest of Lake Balatonboglár, but this section has a retaining wall. To enter the water, you use docks or ladders. The lake bottom is firm and free of vegetation and the lake is shallow for a long distance making it ideal for children. Now, Sabahaz. It was an absolute delight. The owner was born in Canada with Hungarian roots. The whole family is involved and they are all delightful. They did a beautiful job converting the building into a very nice hotel, with modern amenities and spacious rooms and bathrooms. The buffet breakfast was very good. Parking is plentiful and free. WiFi worked perfectly. They have lounge chairs for you to relax on the grass by the water. Did I mention, it is right on the water. I don’t know how they are able to make a profit on what they charge. Be sure to ask about the family history— very interesting.
