Very reasonably priced including a full breakfast.  The staff here like Anna at the reception and Oscar in the restaurant are so accommodating for our group of 6 adults and 5 children.  Anna booked zip lining for all of us.  You can hear the birds and watch them span their vast wings over the lake.

Such an amazing experience!!. Breath-taking views!!. Relaxing atmosphere!.
We (spoiled American brats!.) were at first taken back that Standard rooms didn’t have fridges/ access to ice, etc., but honestly, after a while, being immersed in such beauty, it didn’t even matter!.
The staff, everyone we encountered (a special shout-out to Anna - you’re a ROCKSTAR!!.) was incredibly sweet and helped immensely!!. with making dinner/ activities reservations. 
Beautiful property!!. Do go!!.

This hidden gem in the rain forest was so much fun. We saw jungle cats, monkeys, birds, and so much more. The weather was nice...a little light rain everyday. A lot of sunshine. Pool and hot tub were so nice. Overall the place was very clean. 

This is a quaint hotel, the staff is super friendly and helpful; plus if you reserve tours through the hotel, you get a 5% discount😁. 
The hotel view is priceless. You can see the Arenal Volcano (which was active from 1968 until Oct 2010. You can still see smoke from the cauldron) and the biggest man made Lake in all Costa Rica. The on site restaurant food is really good with reasonable prices.
Rooms are clean with a smart TV and coffee maker. No microwave, no mini fridge and no hair dryer, so plan accordingly.
My only complaint is, mattress are very firm, with small soft pillows.
There is no walkability, you will need a car to get around.
Other than that I really like this hotel.

I have never stayed in a more beautiful locale and I’ve traveled all over the world!! We were on top of a mountain and can see off in all directions. Beautiful views of both the lake and the volcano. They have the sweetest pool and hot tub. I spent about 2 hours there completely alone. The drive up was steep but our car (sedan rental) easily made it up. Our room was fairly basic with THE MOST INCREDIBLE VIEW!! the beds weren’t the most comfortable and we did have some tiny ants. (We realize that we are in the middle of nature up here.)We notified the staff and they promptly sprayed and got rid of them. My advice is to not keep food and snacks in your room. 
The staff recommended a local farmer who takes horse tours, it was INCREDIBLE and extremely private, he took us all over his land to a private waterfall. 4 hours/$55 great deal and KILLER photos!! Highly recommend this tour!!

Everyone was very nice and the view was magnificent! I wouldn't say the food was outstanding, but it certainly wasn't the worst I'd had in CR. Just being able to go straight to kicking back in my room, for me, after a long day of traveling, made the meal perfect. The bed wasn't even close to as bad as some and the pillows were fluffy. I wish I had had the energy to enjoy an evening swim because it looked great and I wish I'd had the time to hike up to the volcano from the trails that led from the back of the property.
The only real complaint...actually advice...I could give is that the road to the hotel and even the driveway up to the hotel were really challenging. Certainly not the kind of thing that you need a 4x4 or skills to do, but the potholes were so numerous and so deep that you could really just crawl along playing a weird game of frogger. It took me almost as long to go from Arenal area (15 miles), as from San Jose to Arenal.

Sitting in the infinity pool looking out at the volcano and Lake Arenal is just amazing. Extremely welcoming staff, immaculately clean throughout the hotel and grounds, great forest walk on the premises, lots of gorgeous birdlife in the gardens, including hummingbirds and toucans. Restaurant is a bit pricey for dinner but the breakfast (the tipico option especially) is great. Shame the pool bar wasn't open but it was quiet / low season so guess not worth it. Highly recommend this gorgeous little hotel - way nicer than the pictures suggest. Just one thing to note - the roads to get to it are "interesting", especially in the rain - so that 4x4 comes in handy!

Jungle Retreat

Everything you can imagine about the view high in the hills is true. It is beautiful! The surrounding property is lush, and has a feeling of being "local". 

My taxi driver said he knew where the hotel was located, yet he could not find it. After asking several (5 or 6) people parked, working or walking in the neighborhood where it was supposed be, he got us there. Instead of being a 30 minute drive it was nearly an and a half and cost $70 with tip instead of $35. My purpose in being in CR is dental work, and I was afraid to stay there because I could only imagine twice a day the difficulty of having a taxi find the hotel (and the cost). So I checked out as I checked in.

There was no other guest in sight, and there was construction happening. My room was comfortable, very simple and no extras. It had a very small, very old TV perched high on the armoire. It was cool at the elevation we were, and the room was not heated so I asked for a blanket and slept under it wearing my jacket. The lighting was very dim so I couldn't see to get any reading work done. The internet was great when it worked and it kept cutting out. I read online there was a restaurant, and there was no restaurant. I was offered a menu from a nearby place that would deliver dinner, but they were not open until 6PM. It was 3 and I hadn't eaten all day. Nothing to walk to either. Breakfast was a pot of coffee, white or wheat bread, a stack of cold pancakes without syrup, some very orange colored juice, packets of butter and plastic containers of fruit and (yummy) bananas. The table had lines of tiny sugar ants parading across it. I say all of this about the breakfast because in Costa Rica one expects a great breakfast. There wasn't a soul around at 8 am if I had any requests. 
It was too cool for swimming but the pool location was beautiful - and the pool had bunches of leaves in it. 
GOOD POINTS: Price point low at $57. View spectacular. Awesome guy who works there was super accommodating. Free calls to the States via Magic Jack. It has a ton of potential.
ADVICE: Stay here if you are not needing much comfort, internet, and don't need to travel far by taxi.

STUNNING VIEWS and a few things missing ...

We were so excited for our stay   The location was amazing with views of the lake and volcano.  Extremely friendly staff and food at restaurant was delicious

However...
Our room was AWFUL!!  Mold and missing tiles in the bathroom. There were bugs everywhere.  The bugs were literally bombing us while we were trying to sleep

We unfortunately will not return to this location.
