You can't do better than this: a lovely old crafthouse lovingly transformed into a guest house with a beautiful garden. The rooms are all individually and lovingly decorated and there was a great breakfast.

Just a dream

Very quiet location although 800 meters from the motorway. Easy to Wuppertal or Düsseldorf. Few rooms, very well equipped. Very good breakfast! Extremely personalized service and very reasonable prices.

I've seen a lot of them and I've been to a lot of hotels, but here everything is very different. All the rooms are so lovingly and nicely decorated that you feel comfortable from the first minute. The owner takes very, very nice care of the guests and would probably fulfill every guest's wish. This little hotel is really a secret tip. My husband and I can only recommend this idyll.

Relaxed, kind, beautiful - single

The trip went smoothly. We were greeted warmly with an umbrella, as it was raining in the rain. The 4-room guesthouse is very idyllic, surrounded by a well-kept garden, biotope and woodland. In advance, the hostess Melanie (without our assistance) offered to arrange a reservation in a restaurant if necessary. The room Cologne: ground floor, with view bars, decorated in warm earth colors in the Franz Landhauss style. Finally, a room with sufficient mirrors, a hairdryer and enough plungers. The bedtime was warm for us in the upstairs toilet and unfortunately the low bathroom is the lowest entrance without the door.

Idyllic, stylish, with heart and attention to detail.

Charming hotel, beautiful garden. We had the luck to be able to catch some late summer sun in the garden, indeed an oasis of tranquility. We took some drinks from the mini bar. There is no restaurant or bar. The rooms are nice. I was in Brittany, which is downstairs with immediate access to the garden. This also means you have to have the curtains closed at all time, because everybody can look into your room. There is a toilet in a closet and a good shower in a somewhat bigger closet. Good though. The mini bar makes so much noise, you have to turn it off during the night. My colleague had the Normandy room on the first floor, which is bigger and also had a bath. Breakfast is good. The breakfast area is not large, but adequate. The children of the house are allowed to have their breakfast in the same area. Which is okay, as long as they do not disturb the "oasis of tranquility" the hotel advertises with. On our last day the smallest child was whining and crying during our breakfast. 
There are two restaurants at walking distance, an Italian, which was quite good and a German one, which was okay.
Would have given 5 stars, if not for the disturbed breakfast.

Eine Oase der Stille... oder doch nicht? (An Oasis of tranquility... or not)

The hotel is a little hidden in Erkrath - surrounded by forest and yet only a few steps away from Hochdahler market. The rooms are functional and stylishly furnished / very cozy with plenty of room for the guest. Breakfast buffet very good. Very warm reception and nice host. Very recommended!!

It's wonderful!

While making our travel plans for a German Christmas Market trip with my father, we came across the Gastehaus Wahnenmuhle and couldn't have been happier with our choice.  We wanted to be in the vicinity of Dusseldorf, using that as a central location to make day trips to some of the smaller Christmas Markets around the area.

The accommodations are very charming and comfortable and we loved the location as it was so peaceful and quiet.  The home itself has been carefully restored and was so comfortable.  I must commend the work that was done during the restoration, as it retained the old feel of the house, but with all the modern amenities one might expect.  My father stayed in the Bretagne room which was located on the first floor, while we stayed in the Normandie room.  Both rooms were of a very comfortable size and the beds were first rate.  After traveling for close to a week, it was nice to feel like you were in a home as opposed to a hotel.

While we couldn't have asked for anything more in the accommodations, it was our hosts, the Magistrali family who truly made this location so special.  From the first correspondance via e-mail and throughout our stay, Melanie, Tommaso and Chloe made us feel so welcome.  They are very gracious and make you feel as if you are part of the family.

The breakfasts were a highlight of our day, seeing Chloe's smiling face and enjoying the breakfast room.  Unfortunately, we didn't have much sun during our stay, but the breakfast room was very comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed the fresh fruits, breads, eggs, cheese and meat trays.  Melanie and Tommaso were very attentive to our needs at breakfast, while respecting our privacy.  

After leaving, my father commented many times on what a wonderful time he had at the Gastehaus Wahnenmuhle, but most significantly, how impressed he was with Melanie and Tommaso.  This made the fourth European trip that I have taken with my father.  Each time, we have experienced something new and exciting, but for him, it is the people that we have met that have left a lasting impression.  In this case, the Magistrali family has left my father with fond memories of his travels throughout Germany.

We feel as if we made new friends during our visit and when we return to Germany, we will certainly make the Gastehaus Wahnenmuhle our first choice.

Charming Accommodations and Fabulous Hosts

This beautiful guesthouse is a true oasis, nestled among trees and garden ponds in suburban Erkrath.  It is managed with professionalism and care by the lovely Magistrali family--Melanie, Tommaso, and their adorable baby Chloe. We are a family of four and had two rooms, each with a distinctive character and an airy, clean feeling.  The beautiful old guesthouse is nicely updated and the rooms are stylish and comfortable.  We thoroughly enjoyed our delicious breakfasts of fresh bread, cheese, eggs, fabulous fruit, and more in the sunny breakfast room.  Melanie and Tommaso were so friendly, and eager to make our stay a great experience.  They succeeded!  We look forward to returning on our next trip to Germany!!
