This hotel is the only hotel on this beautiful secluded bay. This makes it feel very remote and special. While it is rustic, the rooms are large with generous balconies. The facilities include large sunloungers and kayaks. There is a restaurant and the food is pretty good.

I really liked this hotel - probably one of the highlights of our whole trip. It is a unique, Robinson Crusoe-esque experience.

Secluded, peaceful hotel on a pretty bay

This was our second time staying at Casa Luna.  Both experiences were exceptional!  For this stay, we stayed in Bambu which is the casa right above Casa Luna.  The view is amazing!  The waves lulled us to sleep every night.  The bed was very comfortable and the overhead fans were all that was needed.  The beach is about 50 steps from the casa.  I would say the best part about our stay was the staff at Bahia da la Luna.  Everything from the breakfast to the dinners was always top-notch.  We'll definitely be going back to this location in Oaxaca.

Our second stay - magic

Beautiful place, very comfortable room, clean, with a super view of the bay day and night, the sound of the sea is the best for sleeping. Excellent service and super friendly people. The food is excellent, they have a chef who cooks exquisite!!! It is far from huatulco and the hidden harbor 20 minutes away, from Zipolite but it is worth it. Excellent to disconnect as there is no cell phone signal. The sea is quiet and can be reached without problems. Francisco el metro manager makes you feel at home.

A beautiful hotel for relaxing.

My husband  and myself had a wonderful stay at Casa Luna. We spent most of your time enjoying the sun and snorkeling, kayaking, shell hunting, paddle boarding and swimming. The view from our  kitchen was beautiful. The weather was warm and breezy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We hope to return again next year.

Fun in the Sun

Casa Luna is on a hill overlooking a secluded beach called La Boquilla, 30-40 min from the nearest town (either Puerto Angel or Pochutla). The beach is beautiful for snorkeling and swimming – in fact, it's so idyllic, that during the day, snorkel-tour operators from nearby towns bring in small boatloads of tourists to snorkel in the bay.

At night, there's no one there but the guests and staff of the 1 hotel and 3-4 guesthouses that surround the beach, so you have the place to yourself, and I swear that you've never seen so many stars in the sky in all your life.

Casa Luna is almost like an annex of the Bahia de la Luna hotel. Except, it was created by a different guy, so you pay him for the room, and then use all the facilities of Bahia de la Luna (for which, he pays a commission to the hotel). You're allowed to use Bahia de la Luna's masks & snorkels, kayaks, etc. etc. and anything you need in your room, you ask the Bahia de la Luna staff – who were all quite nice. In fact, we only saw the representative of Casa Luna once, when she showed up to be paid. The owner himself, we were told, lives in San Miguel. We never saw him.

His properties are a good climb up the hill, which it was difficult when we arrived, but by our fifth day, we were bounding up – so: fitness bonus.

We were in the top-most bungalow, which is quite nice, but in the middle of the jungle. So, if you're squeamish about jungle bugs or geckos in your room, this is not the place for you.

Casa Luna makes an “eco” claim for their lack of hot water, air conditioning, TV or custom of not changing your towels unless you ask, but - in the absence of any corresponding investment in solar power, dry toilets, etc. - to me, it just seems like a way to save money.

The view from the slim balcony is AMAZING, but if the wind isn't blowing your way (which it wasn't for us, 4 out 5 days), the room is a furnace, and the three ceiling fans just move the hot air around.

Bahia de la Luna's buffet breakfast (fruit, toast, cereal, coffee) is included, but anything else for breakfast costs you.

All other meals are from their menu, which is not crazy expensive, but certainly more than you'd pay in Mazunte or Zipolite. And while there are many great things about Casa Luna, this is the one minus: you have just the one restaurant option. There's a chef who makes something different every night for dinner (you have to tell him by 4pm, what you intend to eat at 8:30) – and it's pretty decent food – but, as others have written, there's a 4.5 hour period between the end of lunch and the beginning of dinner, where the only restaurant available to you, isn't serving any meals. Otherwise, you're paying $12 for a 30 min taxi to the nearest town (and then $12 back again). 

We went into the town of Pochutla for lunch (delish!) and stocked up on food from the market to come back and put into the fridge at Casa Luna. There's a gas stove and a sink, and a ceramic jug of purified water, so you could stay up there, and only come down for the beach. But meals in the one restaurant end up being the engine for all social interaction at this place (you get to know all the other guests pretty quickly), so eating alone in your bungalow leaves you feeling a little isolated.

I liked Casa Luna. 
Overall – the shortcomings of the property are vastly outweighed by the spectacular location.  I didn't feel it was quite worth what we paid for it at the peak of high season, but in the off-season, it's probably a pretty good choice.

the kind of beach you dream of

we were very happy with our room at Casa Luna.Comfy bed,cute bathroom,handy fridge and all just a few seconds from a lovely tranquil beach....breakfast was included down at the hotel below where the evening meals were delectable. The wifi never worked but who cares !
