Our room was not thoroughly cleaned with soiled sheets on the bed and a strong unpleasant odor. The hotel appeared understaffed and we had to wait for someone to help us with our issues. We asked for a different room but were told the hotel was booked. They sent up new sheets so I ended up having to remake the beds, which actually showed how deformed the mattresses were underneath. One of the shampoo dispensers in the shower was broken off and placed on the counter. The hotel was unable to contact housekeeping to send up air freshener(which they offered for the odor). We checked out first thing the next morning. We would have checked out that night but had spent a long day in Iowa City visiting with our daughter. We will not be staying here again. 

Unclean room and strong unpleasant odor

This hotel is very conveniently located at the interchange of I-80 and First Avenue in Coralville, with easy access to Iowa City and the University of Iowa (although road construction did make access a little challenging). Overall the hotel is clean with friendly service, but I was disappointed with the lack of housekeeping during my entire 3-night stay.

Great location, average hotel

Did not have a reservation, just driving through and based on past experiences, felt Hampton Inn was a safe bet.  Room was clean, but quite a bit smaller than typical Hampton Inns.  Could hear footsteps from the room above.  Would not recommend if staying more than one night.  Good selection offered for the free breakfast.  Upon checking in, requested the senior/AARP rate and was told the cost, but when checking out the bill had the non-senior/AARP rate.  Was told no one could adjust the price except the manager, who wasn't available and they would talk with him when he arrived.  Two emails to the manager and three days later - I'm still waiting for that adjustment.

Just ok

I have stayed at many hotels in this area. This was my first time here as the location was right. The cost is in the middle - not the most expensive or cheapest and I would say quality wise it’s probably the middle.  The breakfast was one the best Hotel breakfasts I have had in awhile. The room is typical Hampton which I have opinions on. Pillows usually aren’t the best. Bathroom has barn style doors which is weird. Decent tv Chanel lineup. Did not use the pool but it looked nice. A lot of plug ins and outlets. Not a ton of noise but some hall sounds. A lot of construction in the area made some navigation issues (but not major). Floor Ac/heating unit was on the temperamental side.

Decent enough

Traveling cross country and stopped at this Hampton Inn.  Was extremely pleased with the staff, room and entire stay   Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.  Easy on & off main highways, restaurants close by

Great accommodations

Added "Destination Marketing Fee" that was not shown on emailed confirmation. Skimming from customers! This has never been experienced by an IHS Diamond member. Chose this hotel just to see  how Hampton treated customers compared to Holiday Inn.  Now I know why to stay the Holiday Inn

Hidden charges

Ice machine did not work on our floor, chair inside our room was very uncomfortable, needs updated and the worst complimentary breakfast I've ever seen. Very uneatable. We went elsewhere to eat. The hotel needs to be renovated.

The room seemed renovated in the not too distant past but the hallways, exit areas and common areas were dingy. Dirty, worn out carpets on the 1st floor. A LOT of dogs - some barking in their rooms. The exit door didn't latch/lock and the deadbolt on our room door was broken - not the best security.

Worse than average

The air conditioning did not shut off so we called desk; the person had to crawl under window unit and unplug it- told us if we needed it back on in morning, a person would be there by then but never came; we asked for washcloths (only got 1 in room)- was told they had no more - that the "laundry person" was coming in to do laundry and we could have more of them in morning  - never happened. Had a 1/2 roll of toilet tissue so when I approached the desk, the fella told me the person who kept the supply room key had gone home with the key so he couldn't get in there - I had to suggest he may want to try the 2 "house" bathrooms & was lucky enough to acquire 2 rolls. Looks to me that the "manager" lets young kids run the place who have no clue! For a Hampton Inn, it's not living up to its reputation and will never stay here again when we go through next year.

Needs attention

Honestly I am surprised that this hotel has not been updated. The landscaping is not kept up and the hotel as a whole looks very worn. The front desk was very often left empty so we could not ask questions. I called the hotel twice on the day of our arrival and no one answered the phone. When I asked about that i was told that I must have called the wrong number- no apology. We had a strange smell in our room that after two nights I decided was a sewer gas odor. The young lady seemed a  bit confused as to what that was. I explained that this was a serious problem I was told after two conversations that the manager would get back to me that day which never happened.  I have contacted the Hilton Honors Diamond desk and reported this to them. They were very helpful. We will never stay there again.
