Hotel Espacio Mágico

I enjoyed the two nights that I spent at Hotel Espacio Magico. I believe the hotel only has four rooms in two single-level bungalows, but they sit in the middle of a large field with a fantastic view of the mountains. You may not be able to see them from inside your room, but you can take a seat on the porch and take in the view. The hotel is about a ten-minute walk to the center of town. It's close enough and also just far enough that you don't have to fight off the noise. The owners/managers were very friendly and immediately upon arrival they gave me a map and offered sightseeing suggestions. The room itself was very plain (but note that I stayed in the cheapest room so the others may be a little different) and there was no air conditioning, but it was perfectly clean and safe. The cost for the most basic room is 500 pesos with no breakfast included, though you can purchase one of their package deals that include breakfast, massage, and temazcal. Between Monday and Thursday the same room is 400 pesos, and I think you get pretty good value for your money at that price. Like with many other small hotels in small Mexican towns, making a reservation from abroad with Espacio Magico can be a hassle as they ask you to make a deposit to a Mexican bank account via wire transfer. My recommendation is just to take down the addresses and numbers of a few different small hotels, drop in to check for availability, and pay them in cash. Call ahead if you're going during high season, but during low season you won't have any problems getting a room. I recommend this place to low-budget travellers. And be sure to check out the view of the mountains from the field at sunrise or sunset.
