SandRocks gives you a chance to experience one of Dar's most exquisite beaches if you're on a budget. The beach is pristine, deserted, great for swimming, and perfect for sandcastles etc. Without SandRocks, this treasure would be inaccessible to us as we have found nothing else in the 100,000 per family per night range.

The rooms are basic, and adequate, with comfortable beds with mosquito nets, and clean conditions. Ask for more towels/pillows/sheets if you need them. It's an eco lodge so the water pressure in the shower is not strong. You're also dependent on breezes rather than fans to cool down, so if Dar's heat and humidity is an issue for you, it's best to go in the windier months in the middle of the year.

There's no menu at the restaurant, so feel free to request your favourites. Casey prides himself on his food. We have had delicious calamari, prawns, fish, etc. We got toast, omelettes, fruit and milk tea for breakfast. Just make sure you agree on the price for meals at the start of your visit.

Our kids loved the wide open spaces of the garden, the little play house and the bonfire at night time. They managed the 10min walk to the beach fine.

Some of the things listed as complimentary like wifi you need to ask for. We found the staff very responsive to our requests so do make sure to communicate them. We have been twice now and the improvements we asked for on our first stay (like a mosquito net on our window) were implemented by our second.

Fantastic beach on a budget

We really enjoyed our four days at Sand Rocks Lodge. The owner Casey cooked really tasty locally inspired food, and he and the other staff were very welcoming and did everything to give us a nice experience. There is no food menu, but Casey will ask what you like, and cook delicious meals. 

The lodges are located in a beautiful, quiet area surrounded by nature and a local village. There are no other hotels nearby. 

It's a five minute walk from a huge, beautiful beach. There are absolutely no sun beds, and we had it all to ourselves. The waves were really high, so we didn't go for a swim, we only went out to our knees. Walk south on the beach and it takes around 30 minutes to reach the next hotel.

Casey arranged a trip to Sinda Island for us which we loved. He packed lunch for us, and we could stay for as many hours as we wanted. 

It's not a luxury resort, but it's the perfect place if you are not into "all inclusive" and prefer a quiet holiday where you get a real feel of Tanzania. 

We would love to come back :)

Exquisite food and charming surroundings

Casey should be more hands on if he wishes people to recommend his lodge. I found the service slack, too laid back. The place is worth it but please take more care in attending to clients needs. Food needs to be improved too.



Lovely place, lacks correct managing skills

Needs much improvement on ving proper ventilation as there is no fans nor ac installed so gets too hot in room. The electricity problem should be sorted at once n better culniary variety on breakfast. Otherwise quiet n nice scenery

Had horrible night

The place is really lovely and the garden well maintained also they can arranged a transport to the Kigamboni ferry for 30.000 Tzs (Uber is 25.000 Tzs).

But I agree with most of the other comments, IT LACKS MANAGING :
1/ The food was never done properly (too fat, uncook, too cold....) and kind of expensive for what you will be able to find in Tanzania.
2/ When I arrived in the room there where traces of ''muck'' in the toilet.
3/ I also spend a bad night because the fan wasn't working.
....................

A lot of small things that can make your stay kind from little uncomfortable to really unpleasant according to what you can deal with and what you expect.

Anyway from my two years experience in Tanzania, you should find best value for your money.
