L'erg

Absolutely incredible time in the desert. Moustafa and his crew are incredibly hospitable and prepare delicious food every meal. 

Our hosts were experts on the area and nomad life, and driving through the desert we got to see a first hand experience of the life of many of their friends living and working in the desert. 

The music was likewise very impressive and a lot of fun to jam and dance with the team. 

The dunes at Erg Chigaga were incredible and well worth the voyage to see them. 

You won't be disappointed. Bring plenty of water!

Staying overnight at the dunes in Morocco is a must. Epic sceneries guaranteed. Watch both sunrise and sunset and be amazed by a starry night. At campfire they will play music for you and overnight you will stay in tents. It is great to explore the dunes, they are more beautiful than expected, at least for me. The staff is also very friendly, they are prepared to help with everything.

The tour (4×4) with Mustapha was extraordinary. We did a wild camp in the dunes of Erg Chigaga. There, sunset and sunrise are amazing with beautiful changes of colours and shadows, though exploring the dunes by foot isn't easy but hot. Sleeping without tent in the soft sand is very nice, like a dream. During the night the experience of real silence is like meditation and free up while watching nothing than countless stars. By the way the food, tajin, was excellent. On the way to the dunes we visited a nomad family, great hospitality, interesting to lern how the couple has organized their way of life to be independent and self sufficient to a certain extent. Mustapha likes to give you any information you are interested in but in the same time gives you the opportunity to explore on your own and let the desert speak for itself. If somebody is looking for adventure, "Bivouac l'Erg" is the choice, especially when travelling during the off-season, what I did. To get a feeling for the area, I spent some time in their camp in the Erg Lihoudi near M'Hamid. The dunes are beautyful. In the camp everybody is very friendly and helpful. Thanks a lot especially to Mustapha, Hassan, Hamza and Mohammed for this unique experience.

My husband and I went to the dessert during the hottest month of the year. Honestly it was not as bad as we were expecting. However when we got there it was very windy. I extremely suggest purchasing the long scarves the locals wrap around their face to keep sand out of your eyes and mouth. Bivouac L'erg Was suggested to us by the owners of our Airbnb. It is very affordable for what you get. I believe we payed $40 for a camel ride, dinner, one night stay and breakfast in the morning. The tents were clean, but were very warm inside being that we went in July. Mustafa, the owner suggested we take our mattress outside and sleep under the stars. It was beautiful and peaceful! The temperature was perfect outside and there were no bugs or animals. The bathrooms were adequate being that you’re in the middle of the dessert. You fill a bucket with water to flush. We were not made aware of any showers to use. Dinner and breakfast was good and clean. The staff were hospitable and accommodating. I would suggest staying at Bivouac L'erg.

"If you want to know quality of house look first on owner". Mustapha is really good person, intelligent   and calm  enough. His camp "Bivouac L'erg" is very peaceful, clean and  cozy! All personnel  caring you with love. They are friendly and always have solution on any your request. Healthy and tasty food, tours with camels, gorgeous dunes changing it's color by sun, nights programs - all this making your days unforgettable! I was really enjoy staying in this camp. Definitely I will come back when get a chance.

Visité este lugar porque un amigo me sugirió ir,porque es algo mas que increible , y de verdad lo es. El sitio es fascinante, buenos sitios para dormir, un cielo genial para observar pero lo mas impresionante es la gente ahí. Desde el primer momento te tratan como un hermano, de todas las formas posibles. Las palabras no pueden describir el sentimiento de jugar con ellos al fútbol en medio del desierto. Volveré 100% seguro.

I visited this place because a friend suggested me to go, because its something more than awesome, and it really is. The place is incredible, good places to sleep, a great sky to watch but the most impressive is the people there. Since the first minute they treat you as a brother, in every possible way. Words can't describe how you feel playing football with them in the middle of the desert. I will come back 100% sure.

I spent two nights here. I dreamed about a real, peaceful place and that's where I found it. This is an absolutely recommendable camp. Located among already quite high dunes, which you can climb, cozy, natural, calm... This is a place where you can find everything you need. Friendly people, delicious food, attractions (camel ride, trip to Erg Chigaga) ... I definitely have to come back here. Thanks to Mustafa and the whole team!

Basic amenities, shared toilet facilities (no flush) and delicious tajine for dinner. The unheated tents were warmer than I expected, which was a big relief (night temp. 2C in Dec.). Bring your own water, soft drinks and wine. The camp gives you hot tea and lends you sandboards. Camel rides can be arranged for extra. Most of the staff were friendly, but not all. We ended up at this camp due to a miscommunication with our car company, and we were disappointed with this location-  Erg Lihoudi, which has very small and very few dunes, and camps built quite close together.  It did not help that the camp personnel kept trying to sell us a second night's trip to go to "the real dunes" in Erg Chegaga (our intended destination). So if you have only one night to experience the desert, skip this location and drive the extra 2 hours to Erg Chegaga!
