Fantastic
713 reviewsWe visited Aqua Bay for a week in June with friends- our party was four adults and three boys aged 8-10. Stress-free check in process, with cases whisked away while welcome drinks were poured. Our room was perfect, with a huge bed in the main room, plus a comfy sofa-bed for our 10 year old son. This was in an area that could be divided off with sliding doors, which was a great alternative to having a physical wall/door as it meant we could enjoy a larger space during the day. Air conditioning was FANTASTIC! And an absolute God-send as it was 40 degrees for the first few days. Bathroom was very clean, with twin sinks and a huge shower. Loads of wardrobe/drawer space. Plenty of sockets. Two TV’s with the usual mix of random channels (we found the German Disney channel the most entertaining!). There was also a safe and a fridge, which was restocked daily with two large (sealed) bottles of water. Patio doors led out to a semi-private decking area with comfortable chairs, sun loungers, a table and a rack for drying towels/swimwear, which was a helpful touch. This joined the main decking around the pool. Which brings me to one of my favourite things about the design of Aqua Bay- the pools! The rooms are arranged in small two-storey ‘blocks’ which each have an accompanying pool. With about ten rooms in our building, it meant that things never got overcrowded in or around the pool. This seemed to be the case throughout the complex, even though it must have been fully booked. There is also a larger central pool with a calm corner section for the little ones. There seemed to be plenty of pool toys and inflatables to go around. I’m not sure if these are provided by the hotel or have been left behind by previous guests. Either way, the boys were delighted and spent most of the holiday in the water. The main restaurant was buffet style, serving a good selection, even for a fussy veggie like me. Plenty of space with seating indoors and out, but it could get a bit busy at breakfast, esp’ the toast queue. Oh, and expect to be visited by various cats if you choose an outdoor table! We had one evening meal at the A’la carte restaurant (near the water park) which was superb. The outdoor Bar also served hot and cold snacks, which were delicious. Next to this was a large airy day room which was a great place to curl up with a book when the sun got a bit much. The usual mix of dance music was played around most of the outdoor areas during the day, but was never too loud or annoying. Was turned off at a sensible hour too (9pm I think). The grounds are all very well maintained, with plenty of trees full of cicadas. In fact the cicadas are the first thing you’ll notice! They are a constant soundtrack to your stay, although you’ll tune them out almost straight away. We struggled to actually see one though, despite many attempts. I can’t comment on the evening entertainment as we never ventured out to see it. We did have an evening in the pool table / air hockey / games area though, which was a little tired, but that’s probably to be expected with so many families visiting all year. The water park was great though. Very busy, as it serves another hotel and is open to the general public, but queue times for the slides were never too long. All inclusive wristbands were accepted there too, which was great. I have absolutely no idea where the gym was. Nor did I care. :) The beach was a 15 min walk away, albeit uphill and unpaved which won’t suit everyone. (Take swim shoes too - bit Stoney!). Local shops and bars were a 10 min wander down the road. Tip - try the (huge) mini golf park, and take the little road train to Zanti town- much more fun than a bus or taxi! Speaking of roads, I’ve read a couple of reviews that mention road noise. Our room was probably the closest one to the road, but it didn’t bother us at all. We slept very well. Also, we had the same green-tinting of clothing worn in the pools, but it’s not really an issue is it? It’s probably due to spending hours on end splashing about. I’m sure quick dippers wouldn’t have a problem. All in all, a highly recommended hotel. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Drinks were cold and plentiful and the food was fine. I wouldn’t think of booking anywhere else if I return to the island.
