If you're planning a trip to Santorini, Greece, I can promise you won’t be disappointed! This beautiful island offers endless places to see and activities to enjoy. While this wasn’t my first time in Santorini, this stay was, without question, the best. After getting advice from a few travel agents, I was guided to a charming little boutique hotel called the Honeymoon Beach Resort. I found it listed on Booking.com and was pleasantly surprised by the affordable rates. The photos were lovely, capturing the traditional Santorini architecture, so I thought, “Why not?” Saving on accommodation meant more for exploring the island. Little did I know, this hotel would exceed every expectation. The Honeymoon Beach Resort is run by Julia, her husband, and their two sons, who immediately made us feel welcome. When our flight from Athens was delayed by two hours, I worried they might not be at the airport to pick us up. But as we finally arrived close to midnight, we were thrilled to see Julia’s son, Michael, standing there with a big smile, holding a sign with our names. Even at that late hour, he was full of energy and gave us a quick five-minute tour on our way to the hotel, showing us around like we were family. It was a warm night, so I asked about the pool hours. Michael’s response? “The pool officially closes at 11 p.m., but you’re welcome to stay as late as you want.” This relaxed, welcoming attitude spoke volumes about the true Greek hospitality we would experience. After we arrived, Julia herself came out to greet us and, seeing we were a bit hungry, offered to make us a meal. Within minutes, she served a generous bowl of spaghetti Bolognese that was absolutely delicious. Imagine that—having the hotel owner personally cook for us at that hour! We felt genuinely at home. When we finally made it to our room around 2 a.m., it was everything I’d hoped for: immaculately clean, beautifully furnished, and exuding authentic Greek charm. For cleanliness and comfort, it’s a solid 10/10. I could easily imagine living there full-time! The next day brought more surprises. The hotel is conveniently located near bus stops that run to Santorini’s most popular spots. At first, we considered renting a car, but prices were high. Julia casually mentioned she could arrange a deal with a friend, and sure enough, we got a lovely car for half the online rate. Every day here just kept getting better. Santorini is packed with sights, and while some of the popular spots can mean long waits for photos, it’s all worth it. After full days of exploring, there was no better feeling than returning to the Honeymoon Beach Resort. Julia and her family were always around, ready to welcome us back, along with other guests. Many evenings, we’d all gather by the pool, sharing stories well into the night, with Julia cooking up snacks and serving drinks, joining in like old friends. It was a rare, heartwarming experience—like coming home after a long day. In my 50 years of traveling, the Honeymoon Beach Resort in Santorini gave me the most authentic and welcoming Greek experience I've ever had. Thank you, Julia and family, for creating such a beautiful, friendly, and unforgettable atmosphere. We love you, and we’re already looking forward to returning in 2025!
