Captain's House

I stayed at The Captain's House after a friend had recommended it to me. It's a very well run 2 star hotel situated very near the town centre of Skala and right opposite The Captain's Bar. I had a pretty large room on the ground floor, with a small balcony with 2 chairs and a table. There was even a small clothes line along the balcony railing with clothes pegs attached incase you wanted to wash clothing. There was also a small fridge, I bought some milk I'm a nearby supermarket so I could have an afternoon cup of tea and a twix which I also kept in the fridge. There is an air-conditioning unit, but there is an additional charge for this. I didn't need it. There's also an additional charge for the safe that's in the room, again I didn't need it as my suitcase has a lock on it, I kept all my valuables there. The bath room is on the small side, a feature in many Greek hotels. The shower is particularly small, but works fine and there's always plenty of hot water. I have a tip here, if you find soaping yourself difficult in such a small space, I suggest wetting yourself in the shower, then turning it off, step outside onto the floor towel provided soap yourself there, then step back into the shower to wash the soap away. Sounds a bit cumbersome, but trust me made my shower experience a whole lot easier. Towels and bedding were regularly changed and the rooms were always well cleaned. The breakfast is continental, so don't expect any fry ups here. That said, the croissants were particularly good and always warm. There's a choice of cereals, crispbreads, cheese and hams, along with fruit and Greek yoghurt. Eleni who looked after the guests at breakfast station always had a smile on her face, and would ask if I'd like my bread toasted, and if I'd like another cup of coffee. I really enjoyed my stay at The Captain's Cabin and will definitely return again.
