Hostal Villa Colombia

Stayed two nights in a very comfortable room. The owner, Galo, is also the owner of the vessel that took us out to Isla de la Plata, an unforgettable experience! Anyone interested in experiencing the central coast area of Ecuador should seriously consider staying at this hostal and going on a great adventure on the Aventuras la Plata boat.  I was pleasantly surprised that Galo spoke quite a bit of German, and that his wife is also from my home country, Germany!

A calm and clean hostal with really nice staff and a garden full of recovering turtles. The location is 5 blocks from the beach, so the music at night is not a problem.  The family was very friendly and routinely invited me to dinners and gatherings. 
My only negative view is that the hostal does not have a kitchen for use.

Stayed at the hostal for 3 nights, nice private room very well priced. Puerto Lopez is a small town so it's easy to walk everywhere from the hostal.

Owner - Galo, is an extremely nice and laid back guy, full of recommendations, and speaks great English. 

Also went on a great day tour with Galo to Isla de la Plata.

I highly recommend it to travelers looking for some peace and quiet.

I stayed at this hostel for only one night. The place was very nice, clean and quiet, in a relaxing way. The hostess Gladis is pleasant and welcoming. I did the tour to the Isla de la Plata with her son’s tour company and it was a very enjoyable tour.

The place looks great! And they got a pet turtle named George :)

Here Son Galo does the tours to isla the la plata, we saw the most awesome animals :)

We will come back! 

After arriving late off the bus to Puerto Lopez, Clacia welcomed us with open arms as if we were in her very home. She told us not to worry about checking in until the morning as she could see the tiredness in our eyes. 
After breakfast and an incredible day whale watching that Clacia had organised for us, her and her son galo organised a worker to drop us off at the bus station to continue our journey. 
Such kind people, I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Puerto Lopez!

Beautiful friendly hostal

Best hostel ever! 

Although the place is lovely, I really did not like the fact that they did not give us a receipt after our payment (even after our request). In Ecuador, this is not a minor detail. In fact, not giving a receipt is illegal. The tax system in Ecuador is set up so that any transaction has to generate a receipt. The person that paid for the good or the service can then use the receipt to ameliorate the weight on his/her taxes (I particularly do not benefit, since I live in the USA). At the same time, the system ensures to keep a record of the transaction to charge taxes on the business. This system was set up to avoid tax evasion, and has been highly successful, tripling the revenue to the state that allowed government to bring development to the very needed rural areas of Ecuador in the last years. I do not like that the owners of this business (from the capital, Quito) are avoiding paying taxes that would benefit their own poor neighbors in Puerto Lopez. You have a beautiful hostel in the middle of so much poverty, the business is successful mainly due to the richness of the landscape and the beautiful nature, you are making money out of it... give a little back! I am not asking for charity, it is your LEGAL responsibility!
