What a great experience! We felt like we were in the middle of the jungle (because we were). I saw one mosquito the whole time! The food was excellent and the lodge owners catered to our delicate stomachs AND we had homemade ice cream several times. I’m still thinking about their homemade bread, too. The cabins were rustic and added to the feel of being smack dab in the middle of the jungle, and the lodge grounds were well-maintained. Our guides (thank you, Felix!) were awesome!

Comfortable jungle immersion

Where should we start - hardly ever have we felt so welcomed. If we ever wanted to live in the Amazons of Ecuador the hosts Francisco and Silvia are exactly the kind of people we would want to have around. Anaconda Lodge isn't just about having a bed to sleep in. If you are interested in learning about the culture, animals (cute dogs and cats included ;-)) and the beauty of this area but also eager to find out more about the political difficulties the rain forest and the people who live in it are experiencing these days then this is the perfect place for your stay. The hosts will make this breathtaking experience unforgettable for you. It's easy to tell that the lodge means so much to them. Not only is the Anaconda Lodge with all its friendly staff and delicious food a peaceful and quiet place to experience the rainforest with all its beautiful flora and fauna (trust me - Silvia and Francisco got some great trips waiting for you ;-) ) but it's also a place where hospitality takes on a new meaning. Thank you so much for taking care of us and for broadening our horizons. We truly felt like we were part of the family.

We had the most wonderful 4 days/3 nights stay in beautiful Anaconda Lodge. 

So much care and love was put into every detail - from the delicious home cooked food to the beautifully kept grounds, and there was a good balance of excursions into the jungle and free time. The guided excursions were fantastic - local guide Felix was so knowledgeable and kind - he even made me a fresh tea using medicinal plants in the jungle when I had a dodgy tummy which was amazing (and got rid of the stomach ache!)

My partner and I came away from our stay feeling energised, rested and rejuvenated. We wouldn't hesitate to go back again and would highly recommend Anaconda lodge. Thank you Francisco, Sylvia, Felix and the rest of the staff!

The highlight of our trip in Ecuador!

We had a great experience in Anaconda lodge  from start to finish. Francisco made it very easy for the transport to and from the lodge in our instance we travelled from Quito to the lodge and travelled back out to banos. Francisco is very passionate about helping the local indigenous people and preserving the wildlife and nature in the Amazon. The staff that work there are all very helpful and kind with top class service throughout the whole experience  from the staff that takes the tours and hikes to the waiting staff. The food is also amazing at the lodge and makes it more of a local experience. You be submerged in the nature and wildlife right from the start as you are surrounded by the noises of the Amazon and get a first class experience of being part of its . The animals we got to see was monkeys, caiman, tarantulas,  multi coloured frogs and this is all in and around the lodge. A very good experience and would advise anybody to go.

Excellent experience at anaconda lodge

We stayed at the Anaconda Lodge with our 11 year daughter and 7 year old son and had a wonderful time.  This was our first exposure to the jungle and we came away feeling like we learned about as well as experienced the Ecuadorian Amazon.  The guided hikes with Felix and introduction to the Quichua tribe were highlights, as were the time speaking with Francisco and Silvi and the staff.  All were extremely hospitable and knowledgeable and the food (and pisco sours) were top notch.  The bungalow was very clean, bug-free and at the same time blended in with the natural surroundings.  I loved going to sleep at night listening to the sounds of the night.  We learned many anecdotes about plant and animal life that greatly grew our appreciation for nature as we returned home.  I highly recommend for curious and open-minded people and am very grateful for our time there.

Wonderful Jungle Experience

This wasn’t just a place to spend a few nights, it was an absolutely exceptional experience.
My husband and I spend 4 nights here and we were so sad to leave when it came to an end. The staff were so lovely - Francisco and Sylvia as well as Eugiene were so welcoming and make it feel like home. We felt so taken care of, all of the activities were amazing and it was such a perfect balance of doing a lot of things and seeing so many parts of the area, as well as getting time to rest and relax. We learned so much about the Amazon being there as well, I loved that there were local guides on the experiences we went on. 
The food was absolutely exceptional as well. We left a couple of days ago and I’m still dreaming about it. 
The rooms were cosy and the grounds were beautiful. 
I can’t recommend this enough, I wish there was more than 5 stars I would give!! 

A totally incredible experience 

This was one of the best guided experiences I have had. If you are looking for an authentic experience where you can learn, have fun, be comfortable, treated like family, and eat wonderful food, this is it! My friend and I stayed for two nights and this was one of the best things we did out of two weeks in Ecuador.

Incredible Experience!

The Anaconda Lodge, under current owner Eugene, is an amazing destination and one we highly recommend. Where to start? The accommodations are just right. Clean and comfortable, though not fancy, which facilitates good rest, and also interest in being outside. The food is FABULOUS! Luis manages the kitchen, with input from Eugene about menus, and again, it's exquisite. The daily homemade bread and ice cream are excellent, and the quality, range and variety of all the food is awesome. You will eat well! The grounds of the lodge are impeccable. Even after an intense thunder storm, walkways are accessible, swept and beautiful. There are great places for being in nature - a gazebo, a chair swing, multiple well kept paths. And the organized activities are spot on. Local, relevant, varied, interesting, and well done. Hikes in the rainforest in the day and at night with an amazing local guide who knows the trees, plants and animals, and can spot nearly microscopic baby frogs and spiders and other insects with astonishing precision. (and yes, you should absolutely try the hormigas. They are sweet and delicious!) I could go on about tubing in the river, making chocolate fondue from cacao and eating it with local fruit, learning about and drinking the local yucca beverage, local animal rescue efforts, local co-ops to promote Amazonian products and culture. If you are remotely in the area, or have ever had interest in seeing the Amazon Rainforest, Anaconda Lodge near Tena, Ecuador is where you should go.

Awesome Adventure, The Anaconda Lodge was an excellent addition to our Galapagos Island trip in Ecuador.  

Eugene, greeted us at the dock below Tena for the 20 min boat ride to the island and  got us settled on the island and in our cabin.  The cabins are bright and clean (you leave your shoes outside on your covered porch next to your hammock and they provide soap, shampoo, and towels and the fan is useful if nights are warm.  The cabin has screens on 3 sides and they do an excellent job at keeping bugs out of the cabin.  We had no bug bites on our 4-day trip in the Amazon Jungle.  We used the local bug spray (no deet)  - we had our driver stop locally for it and it was under $3, other guests used DEET from the USA and also had no problem with bugs.  The food at the lodge is delicious and more than enough.  We traveled with our 25-year-old son who loves nature and animals and this was a trip of a lifetime for him (and us!).  

Eugene and Freddie (The English version of their names) were awesome guides who spoke Spanish and English (and the local language).  We went on a boat to other locations to hike to see animals in the jungle, learned how to make chocolate with indigenous people, learned about the medicinal powers of plants, tried plants and fruits right from trees in the forest, learned how people use everything in the forest to survive in this amazing place.  We tubed down the river, visited an animal rescue, and saw so many animals in the reserve and in the forest around.  Freddy, who grew up in this area is a treasure of information about the people and jungle as well an awesome guide.   We liked meeting the indigenous people and learning about their cultuire, hunting blow guns, making pottery and wood carvings.   Able, a young guide at Anaconda loge was a welcome bonus on adventures and was constantly watching out for us, finding the poison dart frogs and birds, and showing us plants and fruits to try while in the jungle.   

I am a worrier but all connections, hikes, and accommodations went smoothly in this remote area, however, you are in a jungle and this is not "Disney World" and there are dangerous things around you so you need to be alert, listen to the guides and be cautious.  

We had excellent weather with only rain one night, the jungle may be muddy but you walk in your rubber boots (put your shoe insoles in for better support) through mud and it keeps your feet clean, dry, and protected.  We saw monkeys, snakes,  scorpions, and tarantulas in the wild and all sorts of animals up close at the animal shelter including wild boars, tucans, parrots, and anacondas.  We had an awesome 4-day adventure with the other guests at the lodge.  We enjoyed relaxing before dinner in the common area with a drink, talking about our adventure, and looking over the books the Anaconda Lodge has to learn even more about the rain forest and the indigenous people of this area.  I can see why Stanford University brings groups to the Anaconda Lodge.  It is an amazing experience just a 4-hour drive (beautiful views along the steep mountain roads) from Quito.  

Eugene, Freddy and the staff provide an amazing adventure in the Amazon Jungle and the Anaconda Lodge is well run.  Our impression was that there are other lodges in that general area but some are in the town and more like a hotel on the river and the other more remote lodges did not seem to have the higher standards and skilled staff that the Anaconda Lodge has.  The cooks, bartenders, and all the staff at the lodge were a pleasure to meet and learn from while providing excellent service in the jungle!

Awesome 4 day Adventure at Anaconda Lodge

This is a unique lodge on the Rio Napo, near Ahuano, Ecuador. You actually have to take a boat to get there because it is on an island in the middle of the Napo River (a tributary of the Amazon). The owners were away when we were there, so our host was Eugenio, a very interesting man with a very interesting background. He provided English translation and came with us on several of our excursions and generally made sure we were having a good time. The rest of the staff were indigenous Kichwa people who lived in the area. The cooking staff were nothing short of amazing, with something creative and new at every meal. Our guide in the jungle, Abel, was a man of few words (in English, Spanish or Kichwa) but he was very knowledgeable about all the flora and fauna. There was a long, difficult jungle hike, a night walk, a chocolate-making demonstration we got to participate in (and have a chocolate fondue as  a reward!), other indigenous demonstrations (including trying our hand, and mouth, at firing a blow-gun). The itinerary was full of interesting things to do, but there was also time to relax and take in the jungle sounds, which were amazing and loud. The cabin was very nice, and kept us dry when it rained at night. All-in-all an experience we will never forget.
