I had an amazing 14 day stay with Alberto, the owner and excellent chef, in his updated hotel. The breakfast was the perfect start to my day with lots of fresh fruit and eggs cooked to order. My room was tucked in a quiet corner and always spotless. The location and charm added to an amazing Ecuadorian experience.

I just spent 12 days at the Casa Ordonez and had a fantastic stay.  The rooms are very clean, the beds are comfortable, and the breakfasts delicious.  Alberto, the owner, and all of the staff were very friendly and helpful.  The hotel is charming, having been in Alberto’s family for over 100 years, and being formerly the family home.  It is also within walking distance of just about all the important markets and other important sites.  There is a tramway which is still in the testing stages, but should be functional soon with a stop less than a block away

Charming hotel in a great location. The staff always gracefully helped us with all our needs. The beautifully renovated house with typical architecture has been in the same family for more than a hundred years and you can feel the owners' pride as it's immaculately maintained. Our stay couldn't have been better. I hope I will be able to return.

Alberto thank you for such a great time. We especially appreciated the outstanding organisation and care that you showed on our holiday. We were exceptionally well fed with the local products and the opportunity to sample (and drink) the wines made it an interesting gastronomic experience. The breakfast was every day different and amazing... We would unreservedly recommend Casa Ordonez but mostly your warmth and friendliness made it a very special and memorable holiday for us both.

Thank you Alberto and all the staff for an amazing three nights and for all your help afterwards, we couldn't of done it without you! From the tips and organization of  the many private trips we took (horseriding and Inca's), to the restaurant recommendations  and general advice.
The hotel is just gorgeous, immaculate and a real home away from home. Nothing is too much trouble. The whole staff went above and beyond.
Breakfast was the best we had on our three week stay throughout Ecuador, a different choice every morning.

My wife and I just spent two weeks at Casa Ordonez in Cuenca.  The hotel is a 19th century family home reconfigured by Alberto Ordonez into a lovely “bed and breakfast”.  The building has a typical hacienda floor plan with a large central courtyard, now covered with a glass roof, where breakfast is served each morning.  Alberto is the chef providing a variety of breakfast fare, all delicious, especially his smashed avocado on toast with fried eggs.  

Casa Ordonez is located in “el Centro”, the historic district of Cuenca, only two blocks from Parque Calderon and the new Cathedral.  All important venues are an easy walk from the hotel.  For sights farther afield, a taxi ride costs only $2.00.  

Before our visit Alberto recommended a hotel in Guayaquil (Grand Hotel Guayaquil) for our first night in Ecuador, since our arrival from the US was quite late.  He also made arrangements for a driver to bring us from Guayaquil to Cuenca the next day.  From the moment we arrived at Casa Ordonez we felt like part of the Ordonez family.  Alberto met us, as we arrived, and offered to assist us in anyway possible to make our visit pleasant and enjoyable.  We had the pick of two rooms, each with a queen-sized bed, in-suit bath and long-stem fresh roses.  One upstairs and one on the entry level.  We chose the downstairs room, and found it to be quiet, pleasant and very clean.  During our stay Alberto and his staff made dinner reservations for us, arranged for taxi pickups, and recommended a travel agency (Apullacta, two blocks away) for day trips in and around Cuenca. 

On the Wednesday of our first week, Alberto invited us and three other guests to share a pizza dinner.  He has a wood fired oven in his kitchen.  He made three different pizzas each of which were delicious.  The night before we left, Alberto hosted a catered wine tasting dinner for 30 expat guests.  It was an interesting experience talking with Americans who had retired to Cuenca, and the dinner was a bargain.  If you’re planning on retiring to Cuenca, Aberto can be a valuable resource to help in your resettlement as he has successfully helped so many others in the past.

If you want to have a relaxing and comfortable experience in Cuenca  start by staying at Casa Ordonez.  Alberto will do anything he can to make your trip truly unforgettable.  We look forward to returning to Cuenca and experiencing again the friendly atmosphere and hospitality of Casa Ordonez.

We couldn't have picked a better place to stay in Cuenca!  Alberto, the owner, met us upon arrival and offered any kind of help we could ask for. The hotel is in a perfect location just 2 blocks from the central square and the cathedral. Lots of restaurants close by. We had a special treat on our last night when Alberto invited us and the other guests for a pizza dinner from his oven. So fun!  I should also mention breakfast was outstanding and different each morning. We will stay again when visiting Cuenca.

It was our first time visiting Cuenca and Alberto and his staff really made the whole trip. He in his staff were super helpful with suggestions on what to do and how to make the most of our time their. He also makes some of the best food I have ever had at a hotel. Breakfast is always something different from the day before and if you arrange it with him he will make you a pizza one of your nights there. Really an amazing experience and would visit again.

Another amazing stay with Alberto Ordonez. Alberto has become a true friend. He is an amazingly hospitable person who continues to go above and beyond all expectations and I hope we are able to return to visit him and stay his wonderful place again in the future. Thank you Alberto

Alberto and his staff at Casa Ordonez are so nice and helpful.  The old house has been beautifully restored.  The breakfasts were fantastic! They were helpful in terms of where and how to go. Most of the staff speak English. Alberto's English was excellent.  I really recommend this place! I stayed here based on recommendations from a friend and am so happy I did

It was like being with family!

We have stayed with Alberto at Casa Ordonez four times now and every time we are welcomed like family.  The hotel is the Ordonez ancestral home and every room is unique and beautiful as well as comfortable.  The entire experience is fun and loving.  Breakfast each morning is like being with great friends.  We have met many people who stayed with Alberto who now live in Cuenca and he continues to be a mentor and friend to each of us.
