Hostería EL Trapiche Lodge & Spa

The hotel proprietor is very knowledgable about the history of this site and gives wonderful tours. The spa is a health rejuvenating experience and should not be missed. While the location is a little distance from the center of action, it is tranquil and easy to access all the tours, activities and features a person might want to encounter while in Banos.

Room was clean and confortable. Nearby there is an old trapiche not working but nicely conserved. Also a lot of nature around with a guayaba (guayava, guava) forest. Our host was kind and helpful. Very relaxing, still not so far from the center town.

This was one of the most delightful Hostels that my wife and I stayed in during our tour of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. Very friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out. The accommodation buildings were in need of some maintenance, e.g. flaking paint and slight draughts here and there, but it all added to the character and rustic charm of the complex as a whole. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, spacious living area, pleasant surroundings, far enough from the centre of Banos to be peaceful during the night but close enough to walk for anyone of average fitness, El Trapiche ticks all the boxes. My one criticism applies to most Hostels in this part of the world; it would be nice to be able to purchase a glass of beer or wine on the premises when you want to sit and relax outside your room in the evening.

the rooms are quiet big, but a bit smelly (especially the bathroom) and dark. Also it could have have been cleaner.
fairly good location - an app. 15 min. walk from the main-plaza - but there is a lot of street noise.

We were greeted by the only working member of staff. 30 of us booked in but not enough staff. Noone came to change bin or make beds. Conference organised in dining room. Such poor service we were being given bowls of soup during activities. Dire staffing. We were also told that breakfast may or may not be served so we may have ot get it in town. Eventually, it was served but the experience was nice location, dire service in spite of efforts of single girls who was pleasant but overwhelmed.
