Inn the Village

The place is located near a local village that is 100% authentic. To go swimming you need to walk 10 min across a hill but is totally worth it. I stayed there fir 3 nights and loved every minute of it!!! All the members of the staff no exception including the owner are actually foreigners from different and the will go the extra mile to keep you happy,  comfortable and entertained.  They also volunteer for the development if the village wich I find very admirable.  This is the perfect place for adventure travel and if you travel alone it is impossible not make new friends with the other guests or staff members.

My friend and I had such a good time here! There's a very social atmosphere - we played cards and Werwolf, and had a bonfire on the beach. The other travelers here were awesome and we all had a great time. The owners are really nice and helpful, and Nutmeg and Sang are the sweetest dogs. 

As all the other reviews mention, the accommodations here are really basic. Bunk beds with a mosquito net, bucket showers, and electricity only a few hours an evening. There are a bunch of outlets to charge your phone when there is power. The place generally has a bit of a run-down feel. For instance, the toilet seat had fallen off in our bungalow and was just sitting on the floor, and most of the internal and external bungalow doors had holes in the thatch. It rained hard while we were there and my stuff (sitting on the floor in the bungalow) got wet. Put your packs under the bed while you sleep! Some hooks in the bedrooms would be a nice addition.

The food is good and the portions are huge. We really loved the veggie curry and the mushroom pasta. You have to walk over a steep hill to get to the beach and wifi, but it's all good. There is a great spot in the village to watch the sunset, and a few little stores for basic stuff. The village kids will hang out with you, play pool with you and braid your hair. 

If you don't mind roughing it a bit and like some adventure, definitely stay here for a few days when you're on Koh Rong.

Super basic but so fun

Perfect for adventure and traveling alone

When we arrived, the receptionist told us to wait because she needed to figure out where we will stay (we booked a 4-bed dorm). Then she put two guys in a 4-bed dorm and two of us to a private bungalow for two. It’s quite difficult to get into the bungalow and we were told the toilet doesn’t work there and that we have to use one downstairs. Well, ok. Then we asked them to put our passports with cash, camera and laptop to a safe. The receptionist took it from us (to be continued)... 
The facilities are very basic (which would be ok but they were dirty, too), there is no running water or wifi and electricity works from 6pm to 11pm only. The toilets were quite disgusting so we used toilets and showers that were on the beach... 
We didn’t eat there at all but a lot of people didn’t finish their food from what we saw.
The day we were leaving, my friend wanted to pick up our things from safe. The staff were looking for keys for the safe for a long time and when they found them, they found out our things are not there. So they were looking for our passports all over the village. Nice feeling. Fortunately they found the stuff eventually somewhere at the bar.
When me and my boyfriend, who stayed at the private bungalow, came to pay, we were told the night costs 15 USD instead of 8 USD we were supposed to pay for the 4-bed dorm. When we objected we were told we should have told them in the morning that we slept in a room we didn’t sign up for. After a heated argument they agreed that we pay for the 4-bed dorm we originally booked. (And here I should also mention that because of that mess one person had to sleep in a hammock when there was loud music in the village.) Of course they didn’t deduct the deposit we paid at hostelworld (which we realized too late...)
All in all, I don’t mind sleeping in a poor Cambodian village without water and electricity, it was actually interesting to see it. What really drove me crazy was the staff and how chaotic they were - and the fact they wanted to blame us for their mess...


Unbelievable mess in organization

I stayed at this place one night; I had booked two nights but it wasn't worth the cheap price. Not that there is anything particularly wrong with this place in and of itself. It is good for backpacker types who are idealistic and don't know any better about how good some cheap place can be.

The lady who runs the place is English and she is very nice. She has a baby and husband and is spending her time trying to help out the local community and rejuvinate the local reefs; which is to be admired and respected. Nothing bad to say about her at all.

My point of contention mainly comes from this sites reviewers the think that this place is like some type of eden; it's not. The village itself is small and one can walk through it in about two minutes at tops. It is very dirty, there is trash everywhere, especially along and in the water all around. Plus, the locals like to burn their trash, which is understandable since there is no way to recycle and get the stuff off the island to speak of. 

The one night that I did sleep here I slept upstairs in a bunk bed with I think, three Argentinian guys as room mates. That worked out fine. The negative part was the smelly fumes from the plastic that was being burned nearby and lofting into my room late at night when I was trying to sleep. There is mosquito netting around each bed so that is a plus and most likely necessary, although the mosquitoes weren't too bad at night when the sun went down I should say.

The "village" is worth visiting just because one can see how a typical Cambodian village is but as I said, it is very small. Also, there is no restaurant per se to eat at. There are a number of places to buy some small, local food stuffs but that is about it. One kind of gets the feeling that one is intruding on these people...which we are in a way. The locals did seem very friendly though and the kids liked having foreigners around I think. Something new each day for them to see and take interest in.

If you're young or just want to do some volunteer work, this would be a decent place to do it I think for a short while. They definitely could use the help cleaning up the place and at least picking up the garbage and putting it in a big unseen pile somewhere. Also, the English lady may be able to use some help with keeping the reef alive and that type of work that she does...again, which is very admirable.

Not anywhere near as great as all the votes would have one think

From reading reviews I was really excited to go here. It was hard to get to, but I got the boat they told me to get to that went straight to the village pier. I met a girl on the boat who was also going there. The boat arrived at Koh Touch that night, not at the right pier. Me and the girl had to pay $50 for a private boat to go there (if it wasn't that it was night and everywhere was fully booked, I wouldn't have done this). But we finally made it to the place, only to be told that they were fully booked and didn't have either of our reservations (despite booking separately, both through their website). After a lot of waiting they 'let' us stay in a room because two people hadn't showed up. We told them about the boat situation, for them to tell us 'oh yeah, it doesn't run on Chinese new year'.. that would have been nice to know. We had been travelling all day so asked for food at their restaurant only to be told that they wouldn't serve after 8.30, even though we were there before but we had waited so long for them to organise themselves. I appreciate there is no running water but the water was brown and stagnant.
