You pay to stay in a hostel, but actually it runs inside the 3 stars Playa Club Hotel, which ends up being a good surprise for those who are not aware. The guests of the shared rooms can use the same services as the regular hotel guests. That includes a very good outdoor pool facing the beach. The shared rooms are regular hotel rooms as well, only it has five or six beds. I booked with a friend and we stayed in a five bed room by ourselves, no one else (and it was new year's eve!). The beds are comfy, the linen is clean and smells good. There's a 32'' flat TV on the room. Breakfast is ok. Negative points: too noisy, room seems to have a little mould and is stuffy.

Average choice in Bocagrande

First off, the name of this place is actually Hotel Playa Club. The hostel portion is located within the hotel. This would have been extremely helpful to know when I was giving the cab driver the directions so that it would not have taken so much time to find, especially after a particularly long bus ride. Once we finally found the place, they did not have my reservation, so I had to email it to them. Finally, registered and all that, I settled in and took notice of everything else. It is in the Bocagrande area of Cartagena, so where most of the hotels (and tourists) are. Lots of restaurants, each access to the beach (there is a door from the hotel that dumps you on the beach), free breakfast is bread, fruit and drinks. Free Wi-Fi. The dorm room is a hotel room with single twin beds each with a chest to store your belongings (you can place a lock if you would like); There are also closets to put additional items. Two bathrooms. I was the only one in the dorm, so it worked out perfect for me. There is a tv, but no kitchen. If you are looking for the true hostel experience, this is not the place for you. It was fine for the one night I was there.
