Renaissance Barcelona Fira Hotel

We originally were supposed to stay 1 night at Renaissance Fira but ended up having to extend our stay to 3 nights. The hotel staff were wonderful and very helpful in accommodating us. The hotel is very modern in its design and comfortable. Its location is convenient to the Barcelona airport, which was the reason we chose it. Its proximity to the bus routes and metro stations is another plus. There is a large shopping mall nearby as well as a number of restaurants. The rooftop area includes a bar and pool and we spent time relaxing there though the water was too cool for swimming. The views from the rooftop are spectacular (but see below...) There is an indoor pool on the floor below, which is not deep enough for swimming laps but very relaxing. We ate several times at the Palmer restaurant in the hotel and were very impressed by the food, which gave an excellent impression of the local cuisine. Our waiter Zalvane was outstanding! He was friendly, helpful, and prompt as were the other restaurant staff. Two caveats: 1. The hotel design with open balconies and transparent elevators may make it hard for some one with a fear of heights, particularly on upper floors or if needing to use the stairs in case of emergency. 2. The shower in our room was a bathtub shower combination and would be challenging or impossible for someone with mobility issues to use. It also tended to have water end up on the tile floor no matter how we arranged the shower curtain. However, I'm sure that the staff would work with people to accommodate these issues with advance notice. Overall we had an excellent stay and would highly recommend the hotel.
