Hotel Sunway Playa Golf & Spa Sitges

My family of four, two adults a 15 and 13 year old, have just returned from this hotel and it was our first stay. Here is my honest review. Hotel We chose to go self-catering and had a one-bedroom apartment. The hotel itself is right along at the end of the beach away from the main town, which is perfect for us as it is quieter. The hotel does provide free bikes, and we were able to keep the keys and use the same bikes for the duration. We loved the cycle into town and did it sometimes several times a day depending on what we were doing. It takes 15 minutes and there is a fantastic cycle path - though do watch out for people that don't respect the cross walks and just step out in front of you! The bikes are a little older however the ones we had worked fine and had a handy basket. Each bike comes with its own padlock and was very useful when you park up in the main town or at the train station. Biking is very popular in Sitges and there are plenty of places to 'park' the bike. Wifi in the hotel works brilliantly. This is not a hotel that has entertainment around the pool, or a pool bar etc. It makes for a very lovely, relaxing experience and is very different to an all-inclusive hotel. It was exactly what we wanted and would return. There was a really good mix of nationalities, no one dominant one. Check-In Mae on reception checked us and in and was very welcoming and provided all the information we needed, swift and efficient. Apartment Apartment was facing the golf course and the sea which was perfect, couldn't have asked for a better view. We had everything we needed (other than a toaster) for self catering although we did just make breakfast every morning. The washing machines was excellent and I had brought a few laundry tabs from home which worked perfectly. We did not have a clothes dryer in the room however housekeeping provided one very quickly. The room was clean and tidy with housekeeping visiting almost daily, fresh towels etc and the staff were just lovely. Bedroom bed was comfy with extra pillows and blanket if you are like me and prefer a heavier covering than just a sheet. The second bed was the could which was also comfortable and easily put up and down each day to allow more room, though you could have just left as a bed all the time. We preferred the extra space. Shower was powerful and warm, hairdryer powerful in the bathroom. Cannot complain at all. Mini-Market Shopped here every day for fresh bread, pastries, water, milk etc It has everything you need and I found it to be reasonably priced. It is open 9am to 9pm. Pools The outdoor pool is lovely. The only downside is that there are not enough sun loungers for all guests. That said, there is no sun bed rush and the two days we went there first thing I was able to get beds at 1030/1100 which I loved. Fresh towels every day from the lifeguard, you just swap them over and he is super friendly. The sun does not stay on the pool all day so if you are a sun worshipper then you will need to be creative. The indoor pool is also lovely. It has a retractable room which means it gets the sun there in the afternoon, which is perfect if you do as we did and go to the beach in the morning, and then up to the pool in the afternoon. It tends to be quieter for most of the day. The jacuzzi is a nice touch and the water jets are powerful though only one worked. There is no lifeguard here. There are some sunbeds available as well so we found this to be a wee haven in the afternoon. Aqua Beach The sunbeds here are great and you have free access as a guest of the hotel. It is the second beach along and a short walk from the hotel. The beach at this 'cove' is very rocky however the one right next to it is perfect and has a place you can hire water boards etc, so we just skipped to that. There is a lifeguard station as well so it feels safe. The beach bar was a great addition, though we did find it expensive and only ate there once. The staff here were lovely. We came here in the mornings and there were always plenty of beds. Restaurants There are three restaurants at the hotel - we only used the pizza restaurant for takeaway twice, which was fine. Gym We loved the gym. It has free towels and excellent air con. The views are amazing as well. There are two televisions which you can use for entertainment whilst there. It isn't huge however has a good selection of weights, a treadmill, bike, rowing machine, etc The only thing it needs is a water machine - you can access the one at the spa however you do need your room key to gain access and twice whilst we were there it was closed. The gym is at level 5 of the hotel and it took us a day or two to realise that only the first elevator opens there to allow you access, the other two still go to the 5th floor however you can't access the gym - once we realised this, we saw the signs which explain it! Spa We did not use the Spa and so cannot comment. Overall we had a fantastic experience at this hotel and would definately come back. Sites itself is lively and there is plenty to see and do and the beaches are beautiful. We visited Barcelona for the day (so hot!) and went to Villanova, the next town over, and visited the railway museaum on a rare cloudy day. The train system is excellent.
