Hotel San Silvestro

The hotel is right across from the landmark Piazza San Silvestro making it easy to find. The hotel staff, value for the accommodation and helpfulness of the staff made it a great choice. There's a small elevator and the hotel has 3 floors. The room was comfortable. However next time I would ask for a room overlooking the courtyard as my room with the city view was over a busy street with a direct view of the office building across the street. The traffic was very noisy when I opened the window - I like fresh air, so I kept it closed mostly. Unfortunately I didn't find out to operate the a/c until the night before I was to leave. I wish I'd asked the front desk about how to operate it before my final night as I'd simply presumed that it didn't with. It wasn't obvious how to work it, but just remember this. Look for the button on the top right that looks like a circle with a horizontal line and just push that. That'll turn in on to a pre-set 20 degrees Celsius. I highly recommend the restaurant Le Grotte which is walking distance from the hotel. It's outstanding and I highly recommend their crema alla zabaione dessert and shrimp ravioli. Special kudos goes to Simon at the front desk who helped me get oriented to the hotel when I arrived. He fixed my safe, got me into my room when I thought I was locked out, ordered me a taxi for the morning I leave and recommended where to go for an appertivo. Simon was great. The breakfast is nice, it's on the 3rd floor, there are croissants mostly filled with Nutella or lemon, a sponge cake, bacon, pancakes, pieces of fresh fruit, juices and coffee. There's more I just can't remember everything that they offer. I think it could easily be a 4 star as the service here surpasses several of the 4 star hotels I've been to. I do recommend this hotel. Near lots of shopping and a 1 mile walk from the coliseum.
