Marriott Indianapolis East

I booked this hotel at the last minute for a family roadtrip because the price was good. I didn’t do any prior research, and was pleasantly surprised. The lobby/atrium was a nice welcome after a long day on the road. But what really set this hotel apart was the service. The check-in experience was fantastic (I unfortunately don’t remember the name of the bearded gentleman who was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful) as was the service in the restaurant for both dinner (Jen) and breakfast (Ben). They really went out of their way to make sure we got what we needed, and again, were very friendly and upbeat. I really got the sense they wanted their guests to feel welcome, and it seemed to emanate from the manager (Jeff) who came up and introduced himself to us and had a great sense of humor. We were also really impressed with the rooms. We were in the tower building and it seems like it was newly renovated, both with hallway carpet and in the rooms themselves. The rooms were spacious and clean. The only drawbacks were that (a) the cellular reception appeared to be spotty on the premises (did not use the WiFi), (b) the room design was a bit odd in that when the hotel room door opens, you get a view straight into the toilet, so make sure the bathroom door is closed if your family member is going to the hallway or the other guests will get a show, and (c) given the large size of the hotel (it has several ballrooms and meeting rooms), the walk from the main lobby/restaurant to the tower rooms can be significant. This was not an issue for us, but older guests may want to consider room location or park closer to their rooms. The hotel is undergoing renovations, but aside from the gym, it did not impact our stay in any way. Overall, we were very happy with this unexpected gem and would return again in the future.
