Hotel Abat Cisneros Montserrat

This hotel is right at the heart of the Montserrat complex, in a building previously used to accommodate the monks. The staff at reception were pleasant and efficient. My room was of a good size, recently decorated, and with a large comfortable bed. The only downside of the whole stay was the view from my window : a rock face, about a metre away. I guess I had a 50% chance of this since the hotel is built against the rock face: half the rooms will have a great view, the other half will face the rocks; I ought to have thought of specifically reserving a room facing out. Dinner in the restaurant (an elegant room) was very good and not at all expensive; very good service. The breakfast (a buffet) was very good too. Top tip : make sure that your window is closed or else you’ll be woken very early by the church bells. My only regret is that I didn’t have time to stay a 2nd night: there’s a lot of mountain to explore above the monastery. In sum, highly recommended.
