The hotel needs renovation but otherwise it's fine for the price (78 US dollars per night). We stayed there for two nights to have the time to explore Tikal at sunset and sunrise. The room was spacious with two comfortable double beds. There was hit water which is a plus in the jungle. The hotel is literally in the jungle, so you can see toucans and monkeys in the garden, which was amazing. The swimming pool was a nice plus to have and it stays open until 9pm so we could use it in the evening after a long day walking in the park. Food at the restaurant was average, I'd recommend exploring other restaurants in the park (esp. the Jaguar Inn). The nicest thing about this hotel was the staff: Ricardo and colleagues at the front desk were the most helpful people we came across in a long trip through Guatemala and Belize. They really care and do a great job.

Does the job, incredibly friendly frontdesk staff

Great 3 day stay in the jungle. Arrived in the evening, explored Tikal the next day. Allows for a full day of exploration over extensive Tikal grounds. Tours rush you and you miss some of the outer areas. Enjoyed a day in the jungle on the last day. Evenings are supurb listening to the sounds ofthe forest. Restaurant on site.

I can only say good things about Hotel Tikal Inn. Helpful people all around the reception and restaurant. Excellent outdoor pool. We were lucky to get an air conditioned room with 24h electricity which is pretty rare in the Tikal area.And I got helped out with the discharged battery of my rental car.

You are in good hands at HTI

Nice stay.  Mayan art and masks in the lobby.  Staff as great.  A couple hundred yards from park entrance. Pool was excellent after walking all day.

Great choice.

Situated right at the gateway to Tikal Park, the hotel met all my needs.  Since the area is isolated there is a restaurant which really comes in handy.  Even some local Mayan-type food.  Bring mosquito spray!   room came with a mosquito net but anyway you need it.  Power only available certain times, but if you get the bungalow like I did it comes with solar and so you have power 24 hours !

Everything you need before going into the jungle

We stayed two nights at the Hotel Tikal in during our visit to the Tikal Archeological Site.  The location of the hotel is amazing, just outside the entrance to the ruins and set in the jungle full of wildlife.  Some of the things we liked:

-The hotel was great at arranging tours, and the guide for the archeological tour was really good.  Go early before it gets hot and crowded.
-The pool was essential during the hot parts on the day.
-The liquados in the restaurant were the best items on the menu.
-The staff were very friendly and treated us very well.

Some things that were less than ideal.

-It was hot!!!  And the electricity turns off at 9 pm, so there weren't even any fans, so we didn't sleep very well. 
-My wife thought the beds were uncomfortable. The rooms are pretty basic, but they are clean and what you might expect at an ecolodge in a national park.
-After a rainy afternoon, the frogs were incredibly loud for most of the night, again contributing to poor sleeping.  We had to use earplugs, and that wasn't even completely effective.
-The service at the restaurant was very slow. We preordered our food, but still had to wait 20 minutes after the scheduled time to get our meals. 
-The sunrise tour of Tikal was not our kids' favorite.  We got up at 4 am, but then had to wait for the guide.  Then we booked it over to the climb the temple only to find it crowded and fogged in with no view.  Seems this could be amazing, but it was a miss for us.
-The birding guide from the lodge was not very strong.  She new general bird families and could show us around, but if you are a serious birder, you may want to make other arrangements.

So I would recommend this place, but know what you are getting into.  If you are okay with roughing it for a few days to stay in the middle of the forest at an amazing site, Hotel Tikal Inn is a great option.


Amazing location and helpful staff

This was simply amazing. One day here is NOT enough, so I'm glad we stayed overnight here and had two days exploring the park. The Tikal Inn is rustic, in a nice way. All the hotels in the park are off the grid here, so generators are used to provide electricity during certain parts of the day. We were a little nervous to know that the electricity would be shut off at 9 pm, but as it turns out, at the Tikal Inn, they are experimenting with solar panels, so there is the ability to have a ceiling fan through the night, which is pretty nice, since it’s VERY hot and humid. Otherwise, it's a pretty nice thing to not have the noise of electricity and to be able to disconnect and be present to the birds and other wildlife here. Tikal Inn also has a lovely pool and a restaurant that has, if not exquisite cuisine, at least it’s fresh and hearty. The people working here are super nice. We had two great tours, one during the day with Nixon, to learn as much as we could about the temples and one at dawn to see the sunrise and learn as much as we could about the MANY birds (with Ezekiel). This was a wonderful, relaxing, educational, awe-inspiring experience. Honestly, I think it was the highlight of our visit.

Tikal Inn is a Pleasant, Rustic Respite

We were treated very friendly by the owner, his daughter and the staff. 
2 nights was too short, we felt very relaxing there in the middle of the jungle.
