We had a really enjoyable stay at Thorlee Guest House and the location in central Stornaway is ideal for meals, travel essentials and there is free car parking.  The beds are comfy and the  shower was excellent. The room had nice touches and was well serviced everyday. The arrangent with the lovely cafe below for breakfast works very well with a good sized breakfast and menu options to start the day. The cafe had gluten free items and good coffee. Very recommended. 

Firstly, George the owner is about the most friendly and helpful guy you could ever meet. There is no breakfast room so he endeavours to provide guests with a basket of whatever pre_packed food they want and also fresh milk/juice etc for the mini fridge in the room. During my stay (Aug 16) he was putting down wooden floors as part of a bigger renovation of the place. The room was clean and spacious and the TV had perfect reception. The only real gripe I had was with the shower. It only had enough power for a weak dribble and took literally about 5mins to get to a vaguely warm temperature. It may be that this will be addressed as part of the refurb but if I'm paying £100 per night, a decent shower is something that I personally consider to be a minimum requirement. Overall though, a decent place to stay.

Tourist visit to Isle of Lewis

I arrived here about 4pm and the lady owner was in the lobby in her pj’s and kept saying “you don’t have a booking, it never went through because the rate being paid wasn’t enough! I left to try to sort it out, luckily it was booked through my company so they eventually sorted it out and I got to stay with an extra £20 added on each night! I was staying for 11 nights and everywhere else was full so luckily they had the space and I stayed there priced £100 a night(this was a double bed but told it was for sole) luckily after asking her she did let my husband stay at no extra charge when he visited but her attitude towards me was rude! I got some water on the first night in the fridge and some juice but that was it, I asked if I could get more but was told that it was just the first night you get refreshments! The beds were comfortable and rooms clean but it was so cold, I had to sit with the quilt around me most of the time. Deborah the owner made me feel like anything I asked her / did was a hassle and not welcoming and when I shouted up the stairs to her to ask her a question (she lived up there) I heard her sigh so loudly as she walked to the top of the stairs and she said ‘what?’ I got reprimanded for nipping out for breakfast and leaving the window slightly open because the room was stuffy with a used envelope with bold writing on it to tell me placed on my bed! Luckily no one else was staying there so it was quiet but not an enjoyable stay feeling like I was walking on eggshells. Great location though right beside the ferry terminal and lots of lovely restaurants nearby. The hand wash pump didn’t work so I had to open it and as the week went on it turned black! No other hand wash / soap in the room so take some with you. 

Comfortable enough and clean but freezing! 

Good location in front of the ferry terminal.  Room was clean and tidy.  Seems like a project where things have to do.  A little more attention to detail will really improve this place. Breakfast is served in the cafe round the corner and was very good. Wifi is very good

Had been dealing with George for over 9 months and initially found him very upfront and honest and courteous but, over many months, I could not pin him down to confirming bookings for rooms required. Rooms available for late October 2016 continually changed from twins to doubles, so he agreed last week that, in view of all the problems I'd had, that we could definitely have 3 double rooms (all that was left by now!) for single occupancy at £65 (breakfast not included). They would contact me to confirm this last week, but never did! I phoned today to be advised that rooms were now £90 and that was that! Lady was pretty abrupt to me and she gave distinct impression she did not want our business. In view of the disgusting treatment I received, have decided not to pay such high rates so have advised them that I will not be requiring any rooms there. Shocking way to run a business!!
