Nysbyen Hotel is a Classic vintage hotel built in 1951, with traditional old age decor. It is another world of its own. Situated in the mountains of Norway, with clean and green environment. Beautiful and nice people. A standard hotel to change from the usual up class hotels and all the luxuries. It's worth the adventure. Beautifuland helpful receptionist. Clean rooms and crystal white bedsheets and towels. The blanket is that perfect safe hug you need to sleep out all your worries and insecurities. You will definitely love the experience.

We had a wonderful stay, good breakfast in great area.
The hotel is old fashion but very cozy. I am coming back to Nesbyen, and there is a nice skiing center Nesfjellet skiing center only 10 km from the hotel, and price is good.
The restaurant in the hotel deliver food i top quality for the price

Me and my family stayed there for one night in july '18. We arrived late at night and got a nice big room, or actually two in one, for the four of us.

The breakfast was nice and regular norwegian.

The common areas are nice and roomy, with several separate lounges. 

As a comment to the negative reviews about the owner, my impression is that although he is rather "involved" and direct with his guests he means well and wishes to make it a pleasant stay.

Thoen Hotel impressed me with a wonderfully well preserved old style from the 60's and 70's. Everything is taken good care of and is very clean. We met a hotel manager at the front desk who welcomed us kindly and gave us good service right away. We were served a cold beer and shown the way out into the cozy garden to relax after a long day at work. We were given a recommendation to go to the local China restaurant in Nesbyen, where we eat a good dinner, had good drinks and dessert. The bedroom was clean and well kept and had its own sink and toilet. Good temperature and air quality in the room! Breakfast was bread and boiled eggs, and a good Norwegian selection to order. Nice atmosphere, and again very good service from the hotel manager himself. We slept 2 nights at the Thoen hotel for work and will book again at a later date!

My wife and I chose to stay in Nesbyen in order to break up the train ride from Bergen to Oslo. Ivar, the hotelier, went above and beyond the call of duty to make our stay pleasant and very memorable. It just so happened that the night we stayed in Nesbyen, the local church had a live concert with a great Norwegian band that specialized in Elvis' gospel songs. Ivar was gracious enough to not only pick us up at the train station, but also to let us know that the concert was that night and that we should get tickets as soon as possible. Long story short, we hesitated to get tickets...and the concert was soon sold out. As we sat in a local restaurant enjoying our supper, the waitress came to our table and said that Ivar is on the phone and that if we wanted to attend the concert, he has pulled some strings to get us tickets. So we walked to the church, purchased our tickets and were graciously seated in the front pew "reserved" section. The concert was amazing! We felt like royalty in this cute little village. The next morning Ivar whipped up a very nice full breakfast for the 3 guests in his hotel. He also drove us back down to the train station and made sure that we got onto the correct train car. The Thoen Hotel is an old building with extremely clean rooms and bathrooms. Beds were quite comfy too. Ivar is a great guy and we loved his hotel.

3 overnight stay. Nice and quiet atmosphere , very helpful and friendly landlord. Not so fancy modern  room,but very comfortable bed, clean linen. Very nice breakfast, cosy breakfast room. Good location in the centre of Nesbyen.

An experience back in time, STAYED HERE FOR A NIGHT, a whole experience, back to the time of 1965-1985, the decoration of the room very apart. the lighting of your room, getting out of your bed was impossible. .still slept well.
the breakfast personally served by the owner was an experience.
immediately when the plate was empty, it was taken away. very quickly the owner ran the whole hotel on his own. and was everywhere at the same time. we will be back soon, was an experience of the past

An experience back in time

Basis for evaluation: 1 overnight stay. Tidy familyrun hotel. Pleasant staff. Quiet surroundings.  Good beds and nice bathroom. Somewhat conservative interior, but nice and comfortable common sittingrooms. Traditional and good norwegian breakfast, giving a good start for the day.

Relaxed atmosphere

I stayed here for 3 nights with a tour group, and I was not impressed. Upon arrivals he owner was loud and rude, taking our bags and near throwing them across the rooms, pushing other guests into the rooms so that he could quickly do what he wanted. On multiple occasions he roughly took over guest serving there own food or coffee to the way HE thought it should be done. 

Further more the rooms where small and old, each room and bathroom different but all tiny and mucky. 

Overall wasn’t a pleasant stay, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
