Stayed here for a business trip and very happy with the room and service. The general standard was higher of everything was higher than hotels of a comparable price (best western,etc) . very impressed with all the staff I encountered and the breakfasts were huge!So big in fact on my second morning I asked for a smaller amount. In the evening I met a friend for a drink and was very reassured by the covid secure practices, tables were booked and you got table service. I really hope this business survives the coming hard winter as they deserve it.

Great stay -would stay again.

We stayed in one of the refurbished rooms. Only down side was train noise from 6am. The room whilst cleanish was pretty dusty so would suggest housekeeping focus on the detail. Food and staff were all excellent.

we stayed in room 236 nice sea view room very nicely refurbished  hotel and nice bar 
 hotel staff are very helpful very good, location  beach  is very nice and morning  full English  breakfast hot excel lend ,we will come back again.

One of the rudest vilest managers ive had the pleasure of meeting. If you want any business at all I think its essential your manager has some lessons on how to speak to people! Disgusting attitude. Bar staff not much better either!

Serious staff issues

We stayed in room 110. Breakfast was nice table survive. Lovely stay staff was very helpful. Bar and bedroom are fully refurbished. Thank you all for lovely day.

One night stay 

We have stayed here before as it is handy for where we need to be, But this year the hotel has been much improved the staff seem to have a new lease of life and couldn't do enough for us and the newly refurbed rooms are brilliant

Job Well Done

We've stayed here before and were expecting budget accommodation, and were amazed when we entered our room. We had a huge luxury room with a remote controlled log effect fireplace, sunken television with Internet apps, and a full waterfall shower and side shower in the bathroom. Views were across the bay and beach. Everything inside the hotel is new and done to a great standard. Onsite bar and restaurant also highly recommended and served us excellent food. We will be returning!

Wow - Fantastic rooms with great views!

I stayed last night. I was massively impressed. Newly refurbished, the room was finished to a high standard. Good quality linen, large flat screen tv and lovely fitted fire 🔥. Longsands beach and Tynemouth park view.
Breakfast was continental and a cooked option. Lots of choice, good quality coffee.
I had worked in the bar there some 20 + years ago whilst at university, before the original take over. The hotel was truly awful and as such the reviews were very poor.
Now, however, it’s so pleasing to see the new owners/management have really worked so hard to turn this place around. I was very, very surprised! A HUGE WELL DONE.
A few little niggles, but the place still has work to do. Still 5 stars from me. 

Impressed. Lovely room, views and breakfast. Fantastic price.

I have mixed feedback, but do not expect to come back. I want to be fair so will start with the positives:

We arrived on the Saturday for a two night stay and found a pleasant art-deco building with generous parking, overlooking the bay with great views. There is a large restaurant and bar. The staff were friendly. The young girl working reception on both days was particularly pleasant and did everything she could to help. Breakfast was good, with selection of cereals and cooked items to help yourself.

So now the bad:

The first room we were booked into was pleasant and overlooked the Lost World golf course with dinosaurs and sea view towards town. After unpacking we discovered the room was very cold and we could not affect the heating. After speaking to reception we were moved to a different room overlooking the bay, immediately above the bar. There seem to be some confusion as to what constitutes a regular room or a deluxe. Our first room had a king size bed but the second room only a double, an extra settee bed but no bedside cabinets.

After being out all afternoon we returned to relax for the evening. The sound from the bar was loud but we expected some noise. So we put on the tv at quite high volume but we could still hear what songs were playing. By 11:30 pm we were ready for sleep but given the noise from below this was impossible and we requested that either the sound could be turned down or we be moved to a quieter room. It genuinely sounded like there was a speaker just outside the windows at loud volume. Five minutes later the music was turned off in what appeared to be a now empty bar and we could finally settle down to sleep.

Only to be awoken at 5am by the sound of the couple in the adjacent room screaming, crying and shouting, things banging on the walls. After about 45 minutes this was intolerable so we raised it with the night manager - as much out of concern for the safety of the lady guest. He seemed dismissive, and after listening in the corridor said they were merely “talking” and he didn’t see the problem. So from 5am we were awake.

The couple next door seemed to resolve their issues because from 8-9am they were making different banging and screaming noises. I appreciate that the hotel is not responsible for the behaviour of other guests, but they should be prepared to intervene if guest bad behaviour is adversely affecting other guests or there might be legitimate safety concerns. 

We headed out for the morning and returned about 2pm looking to get some rest after a disturbed night only to find we couldn’t get into the room. The digital key did not work, and we were told the manager had been called with a master key.

As I write we are sat in the bar waiting for someone to arrive in 25 minutes with a master key so we can access the room which we have paid for. At the very minimum, being able to gain access to you have paid for should be a given.

This is by far the worst hotel experience, despite the fact that the majority of staff were pleasant and helpful. What a real shame.
