The Meldrum Bay Inn 1876

16 of us rented out this Inn for a couple of nights while bike trekking around Manitoulin Island.  It was spectacular in every way!  Our hostess Shirin went above and beyond to accommodate our group; nothing was too much trouble.   And the food, ambience and amenities were all terrific.  Would highly recommend.  We will definitely come back!

We just returned from our second time at the Inn. The first was three years ago and we'd been wanting to return and have been dreaming about the best Lemon Pepper Whitefish and Lake Trout Almondine anywhere, ever, since then.

The hosts are the most amazing people you'll ever meet. Bob is usually in the kitchen but Shirin is always happy to converse, give suggestions of what to see and do, teach visitors about the island, or just make small talk. Always cheery and bright. This isn't a job, this is who they are. That and making acquaintances with other guests makes for an incredible experience.

We won't be waiting three years again. Might go back later in the fall but certainly next year.

We spent three nights at the Meldrum Bay Inn (my husband and I and our two children, ages 3 and 9) and couldn't have hoped for a warmer welcome, more comfortable surroundings or more delicious meals at this little gem "at the end of the rainbow". Shirin is the consummate host: attentive, helpful, and genuine, not to mention wonderful with our children and quick to go the extra mile (we had to leave before breakfast on our final morning and she prepared us a bag of food to take with us to eat on the ferry ride home). Covid protocols were followed to the letter with masking in common areas, distancing at meals and meticulous cleaning of shared spaces (eg the bathrooms) and we felt extremely well cared for. We hope to return soon!

Wow! What a little gem. Was totally worth the drive to the end of manitoulin to stay here. Beautiful, historic building that remains true to its heritage with historic photos and memorabilia peppering the walls of common areas and guest rooms. The rooms and bathrooms were beautiful and clean. The food was fresh, local, and fabulous. Shirin was a wonderful host with lots of information and recommendations about places to visit. Would definitely recommend!!

The western part of Manitoulin Island starting with Gore Bay is much more remote and quiet, compared to areas to the east. There's Misery Bay Provincial Park, and Julia Bay swimming beach. Meldrum Bay Inn is in a beautiful location at the western end of the Island. The hotel is beautiful, the food excellent and the hostess wonderful. We met some very interesting folks there, some Canadian some from the States. The fishing boat comes in regularly to deliver fresh whitefish. It's delicious at the Inn.

A friend and I decided, fairly last minute, to visit Manitoulin before the summer ended. We lucked into two nights at the Meldrum Bay Inn, and I feel very fortunate to have experinced the unique charm of this historic inn filled with vintage photos of Meldrum Bay and art and artifacts from around the world, the warm hospitality, and the excellent food. A treat to sit on the wraparound porch with coffee or wine and watch the hummingbirds at the feeders and the boats setting off and coming in to the marina. Shirin is as knowledgeable about the island as she is welcoming.

We 3 couples had planned for some time to come here for dinner.  Our guests for the evening were thoroughly impressed with the unique surroundings, the exceptional service and the best food you'll find anywhere on Manitoulin Island.  Thank you and we'll be back as will our guests.

We spent a night in Meldrum Bay, what a wonderful break from the congestion and tourist trap feeling of South Baymouth. The inn is wonderfully kept, clean and comfortable. the staff was very attentive and made our stay very relaxing.

This is a wonderful, heritage Inn on the Meldrum Bay harbor, where we spent our wedding anniversary weekend this year, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Having camped for many years at the Mississagi Lighthouse campground on the far west of Manitoulin Island we had been here many years before, but these current owners have outdone themselves. The waterfront inn definitely deserves its TripAdvisor awards! The outgoing owner Sharon could not have been more accommodating and friendly, her husband, an outstanding chef gave us delicious meals--especially the freshly caught whitefish and chips with such delicate batter on the fish! The room was cosy, quiet, and we loved seeing so many hummingbirds at the feeders as we sat on the porch that surrounds the inn. We also enjoyed meeting some fascinating travelers, who were also staying there or stopping by for dinner, and loved tracing our steps visiting the lighthouse and its sunset view nearby. What more can one say! We shall definitely return.

What an amazing place! Such history - we stayed in Al Capone’s old room - super cool. The beds were big enough for an adult and small child in each (ours are 4&6) or if you have kids who kick in their sleep like ours do there is room on the floor for an air mattress;). No air con but there is such a beautiful breeze you won’t miss it. Very clean and comfortable. Peaceful place, superb eats and the most genuinely sweet and helpful hosts you will ever have. Don’t miss out!

Amazing group stay!

An Amazing Experience (Again)

Wonderful inn, restaurant, and hosting!

The hospitality was spectacular!  The house was well kept and clean and the hosts live close in case anything should go wrong or be needed.  The food was delicious and home made each day.  Due to Covid the selection was limited, but it didn't take away from the quality.  I did have some issue with lighting in the house.  It was always lit up like an airport runway.  Why are lights needed in the middle of nights when night lights would suffice quite well?  Also the kitchen was not lit with no way to turn on the lights after the hosts went off to bed.  This made playing cards awkward and difficult.  It was a good location to stay if you want to visit the west side of the island.  Anything beyond Misery Bay PP would be quite a drive for a day trip.  We stayed on the East side for a couple of days to see that side and did the rest of our sightseeing from the Inn.  Once the lighting situation is rectified, this place would be ideal for anyone who likes the quiet of a small town.

Wonderful Stay!

Lovely and memorable family stay!

Warmth and hospitality exude in this charming Inn loaded with eclectic but comfortable decor.  The food is locally sourced (mostly) and delicious, we had local fish that had been caught that morning and bought off the dock across the road! The portions are large and priced very reasonably- the key lime pie is to die for as the chocolate berry cake!  Eggs in the morning are out of this world! 

 The rooms are large  and in keeping with the era of the Inn.  The location is awesome- quiet, remote, and relaxing. The owners have honoured the history of the Inn, the town, and the Island. 

We would often walk after supper and chat with the locals- one couple in particular were so friendly and our chats with them were most definitely a highlight. The Island can be explored easily from here, lots of cycling, hiking and sight seeing within an hour drive.  Must go out to the light house for sunset- spectacular.  Also visit the net minders museum just down the road- history of Island abounds!

There are many Loons on the lake at the Inn- listening to their haunting call as we ate on the outdoor verandah was music for the soul!
