The Lodge at Red River Ranch

An extra special place. Family-owned and run by extra special people.  They have thought of everything you might need or want.  The rooms are lovely, beds are comfortable, breakfast is great.  But it is the hospitality that makes it so special.  And the surroundings, of course, are magical and extra-terrestrial.

A wonderful ranch style lodging in a stunning setting with red cliffs nearby.  The breakfast was good (it costs extra) and the rooms were large and unique.  Run by the family that owns the lodge - good service.  Beautiful western style two story main room with large fireplace and Remington cowboy statues.  

Every 5 or 6 years we are back and it's still the same magic, this time our room was Anazazy. You have the spa under the stars watching the red rocks. Very very nice staff and owners. They have a soap with a smell to kill for it, I bought some of them to make me remember this night in Torrey. It's so close to Capitol reef that it makes the perfect spot to be. It's difficult to give this spot to people as I don't want it to be full next time for us ! 

We just returned from spending the weekend here with our kids and grandkids.  We had a lovely time.  They don't have TVs.  Instead they have a really big gathering room set up for kids to play board games and adults to just spend some time together.  It was lovely.  Our kids, teenagers and babies loved every minute of being unplugged.  They are in a beautiful location minutes from Capital Reef.  They have a large herd of buffalo in the front yard.  Every room is decorated different.  The breakfast was great.  We had a great time being together.  I highly recommend it if you want to reconnect with kids and grandkids from 4-45.  This is not a generic hotel.  This place makes you feel like you have traveled 100 years back in time with all of the modern advantages.


The Red River Ranch Lodge was an amazing retreat during our 10 day tour of the Southwest.  It was a great location for touring Capitol Reef.  Charlene warmly greeted us after a full day of touring Bryce Canyon and then driving just over two hours to the Ranch.  It was late in the afternoon and she helped us find a restaurant for dinner and even called ahead and made a reservation.  The beds were comfy, the lodge was quiet, peaceful and beautiful.  The interior was decorated with southwestern decor and the restaurant offered a delicious breakfast.  You will be happy if you select this property for your time in the Capitol Reef area.

Family owned and operated, this small lodge was such a high point on a two week trip through the Four Corners region.  Coming west from Torrey, the first turnoff to the lodge can be hard to find but fortunately there are two entrances.  Look for the herd of Bison roaming the pasture.  That was a fun bonus for all of us.  Charlene is very accommodating, providing cold storage and ice from the kitchen.  The great room is well laid out.  Rooms are nice, the first floor rooms a bit small but still nicely done.  The morning breakfasts are great and cooked to order (additional charge, not included in room rate). The front patio was a great place to sit in the afternoon and enjoy a glass of wine (byob) and revisit the day.  We (two couples) spent three nights and were sorry to leave the pleasant surroundings. It was just a great place to start our Four Corners adventure.

The lodge couldn't be better. The setting is gorgeous and the rooms very comfortable, with lots of charm. I loved my horse-themed Rodeo Room. The common room, with its big fireplace, books and magazines, is so nice. I used their hiking guidebooks to plan my days. This is so much nicer than the generic looking motels in and around Torrey. I stayed 2 nights and would loved to have stayed more. I had 4G service and there is wifi, too.

The service is top notch. The manager anticipates ways to make your stay better that you didn't even think of, which is the hallmark of great service. At checkout, after hearing I was heading back to the park then to the airport, she suggested I come back to the lodge to change and freshen up rather than try to do this in the airport bathroom. When she saw me eating my take out with plastic utensils in front of the fire, she brought me real silverware and then stored my leftovers in the fridge (and warmed them up for me the next day!). 

 As for food, breakfast was good, and less than 5 minutes east is a bbq place run by a Culinary Institute grad--they have vegetarian options, and portions are huge. The other highlight was the Capitol Burger truck (they have veg options too) run by a chef who used to work in Michelin starred restaurants. Torrey is only about 5-7 minutes away. The lodge has a binder of restaurant menus.

I enjoyed staying on the first floor, as it was nice to be able to walk out my patio doors to look at stars or the scenery. Some have noted there is some noise. In general I don't think there is more noise than at your average motel, where you might have kids running up and down the halls or loud conversations outside your room door. I had the Rodeo Room, closest to the front door and common room, and in general the sounds of people coming and going were not bothersome. If there is a group hanging out in the lobby, you probably will hear them to some degree (or at least hear the men who don't modulate their voices), but luckily there seemed to be a 10 pm quiet time enforced. And I think this would likely only be something you'd hear from the Rodeo or Saratoga Rooms. The other 2 ground floor rooms were set further back from the common room. In general most people were respectful and quiet. The walls between rooms must have been thick--I never heard my neighbors.

I doubt there is any better lodging around Capitol Reef. You are WAY out here. Hardly any restaurants open in April. Our family of four stayed in the Safari Room - plenty of room for all of our suitcases, my husband could work at the desk, the kids have space to read and hang out. Good oatmeal and egg breakfast. Friendly staff. Super cool vibe to the lodge and great views from all the rooms. Didn't use the hottub but it's in a great spot. Make sure to bring snacks and beverages - they offer nothing in the afternoon and evening, and we were too lazy to head back into town to get stuff. We skipped dinner. Would stay again!

What a wonderful and beautiful  setting to spend a few days!  Our room was on the first floor which we liked for access to outside Outside patio with a view of the fruit orchid and seating for us to enjoy.  Rooms where well appointed and comfortable.  Breakfast is offered for additional charge.  Food was excellent.  Would definitely stay here again.

This place has absolute charm and an idyllic setting that feels like walking through a feature in a travel magazine.  We really enjoyed the large great room with its roaring fire, our well-appointed room, the ridiculously comfortable bed, and the homey restaurant for breakfast. We even got to pet Bevis the buffalo from the field out front. Our one-night stay was too short.
