The Lab Hakuba

We loved staying at the Lab, the staff were friendly and helpful, even driving one of us to the medical centre for a broken collar bone.  

The atmosphere in the bar is awesome and had some delicious meals from the aussie chef. Was a great way to meet some like minded travelers, we are wanting to plan a reunion already!

The rooms were spacious and the beds comfy enough, only concern was no locks on the doors but we didn't have any trouble. 

Great location, a few minutes walk to ski lifts, bars, restaurants and a ski shuttle stop.

We can't wait to go back next year, fingers crossed borders are open!

Had the best week ever staying at the lab! 
Everyone at the lab were so welcoming and helpful! The overall experience was fantastic with events on at the hostel and staff advising on fun things to do in Hakuba. This was my first solo trip and I was nervous to be on my own but I left the Lab with a whole new group of mates. Dinners were amazing, place was clean, people are awesome. Shout out to Nicole the manager! She was absolutely lovely and always offered tips/lifts!
So sad to leave the lab! Will be back next year 

Travelled last year and just rebooked for this season coming. Had a great time and was well looked after by the staff. I would definitely recommend The Lab for groups travelling together. The staff make it like one big family giving tips on where to ride, took us out at night and were basically 10/10. See you soon crew.

The Lab was the most incredible place iv ever stayed. 
Staff went above & beyond expectations & I was always made feel welcomed. 
It was extremely clean & tidy all the time 
But most of all it had an absolute epic bar where you could party an meet people. 
Iv made friends for life & will definitely be back. 
Could not recommend a better place to meet people, party, hot tub & hit the slopes ⛷🏂

Amazing place to have a real social time if your looking to meet people and have a great time this is the place for you. excellent, friendly and accommodating staff, they’re always there to help you with whatever you need. A great location to get around the town and bus stops to the mountain 10/10

We stayed for 3 nights at The Lab and it was phenomenal, the staff were absolutely amazing and extremely helpful. Scott the manager this season was extremely helpful, he offered to drive me to the mountain when my taxi didn't arrive and is an all around good guy. The atmosphere was very lively and it was a great place to meet other travellers. I look forward to coming back to the Lab next snow season.

Social and fun

Pros
-Friendly, warm and incredibly helpful staff who showed passion for their work and put customers first. 

Cons
-Manager was drunk on site at multiple occasions, even choosing to pick a fight with an ASLEEP peer. 

-Common room closed from 9-4 with no WiFi available on other floors. 

-We were only able to pay in cash, an amount of $3000aud+ despite being able to pay card at the bar..? ,an obscene amount of money to carry and withdraw from the local ATMs.

-Washing was returned damaged and damp.

-Much like the damp washing, our snow gear was often wet the following morning as the dry room's heater would periodically be on/off. 

-No lockable areas for personal belongings, a shared complaint displayed by all in our room.

In all, would not stay here again. Despite the communal vibe, there was a shared negative atmosphere felt between other customers at THE LAB. Poor quality gives poor experience and made writing this review a walk in the park.

Staff were excellent, the rest not so much..

Where do I start? Arrived and got thrown a package with no information at all. Just to “look at the timetable”. Heaters in room weren’t working and was told it isn’t that cold. Breakfast is from 7.30 till 9 and nobody is even in the kitchen before 8. Chef coughs his guts up and seen him leaving the bathroom without washing his hands. Staff are never there. Could ransack the joint if you wanted to. Always “out for lunch/dinner”. Place is filthy inside and outside with rubbish everywhere, giving this place a bad name definitely. Asked for a lift to the bus terminal when checking out and nobody showed up. Easier to just get a taxi. So much more to mention. Will never be going back to this particularly hostel and would not recommend to anyone
