If you are traveling on a budget, I tell you that this is the best option in Sint Maarten. This hostel is located close to the international airport (walking distance) as well as one of the most famous touristic points in Sint Maarten, Maho beach. On Maho beach there are supermarkets, drugstores, casino, bars, restaurants... everything you need to support you in Sint Maarten. In other hand, it's a little far from Philipsburg, capital of Dutch part, as well as Marigot, capital of French part, but you can take a bus in front of the hostel and in a few minutes you get there.
At the same hostel location there are two bars and the ferry boat to Anguilla, but in this case, if you plan to go to Anguilla, I recommend to take a ferry boat in Marigot, over there is cheaper, it's possible to save about $20. 
Staff really kind and helpful, I spent so many hours talking to them and I could learn a little bit more about the island and its culture.
Beside the room there is the Shadow's bar, an excellent chance to try some Caribbean foods, beers and listen to some funny stories from Shadow.

A cheap option on an expensive island

I am a tour operator who does not underestimate the significance of good tripadvisor reviews for my livelihood, so I don't take this step lightly but the owners deserve a kick, as they are taking customers for a ride and neglecting their responsibility to deserve to get paid twice a much as any other hostel I have stayed in...to offer the most uncomfortable accommodation I have ever stayed in.

Over £30 to stay in a mosquito infested totally overpriced sauna? Complete rip-off! 

1) Yes, on more than one night, the island had power cuts but that's why guest houses have a backup plan of a backup generator. 

2) Yes, the location by a lagoon means mosquitoes will be a problem (even in day time) but why can't the owners have foresight to instal anti mosquito chemical or lights?

3) The owners are v friendly but their answer to any customer complaint is...''Have a free beer''. Basically, this is NOT a hostel- it is a bar with some sheds and the owner liked to point to his big <no refunds> sign on his bar/reception. I made the error of booking 6 nights, when 1 was enough of a nightmare. I booked on hostelworld and the owner's advert there, clearly says 2 days cancellation notice needed but when I asked for a refund for the nights at least 2 days in advance, he refused it.

4) Why do I call it a shed?

Well it had no windows (except in the toilet and those windows would not close properly, thus additional mosquitoes). If at any time of the day, you leave the door open, lots more mosquitoes get in. So the room has no fresh air to dry out the room and thus any clothes not sealed in your bag, will end up damp. Stale atmosphere. Plus when the aircon failed (and the aircon never really cooled the room enough anyway), it thus became a sauna. It was almost 30 degrees, when I stayed there.

I have travelled all over the world and stayed in cheap backpackers in India which were far more comfortable. The location is also isolated near the airport.  

Admittedly, St Martin island is expensive but I ended up finding another place to stay which was a nice hotel in Grand Case village on French side of island, which also has more charm. 

This hostel suffered from many problems but the owners are ripping you off to charge so much for a most uncomfortable room and they are neglecting fixing up their property.

The amenities were ok, beds were ok - a bit overpriced considering it was in the middle of nowhere and you basically needed a car or other transport to stay there. I stayed at 2 other hostels while here and this was the worst of the three and also the most expensive. The bar was very expensive. I had my phone and credit card stolen, and was planning to leave st maarten, but the owner of the crewhouse offered me 3 nights on the house if I showed him how to link his business to paypal. So I changed my flight, showed him the paypal thing, and he then said "that was more simple than I thought, so I'm only giving you one night instead of three". So at that point, I had to have my parents send me cash via western union and go through all this mess just to pay for this hostel I didn't want to begin with. Then western union closed at 4 even though their website said they closed at 6, so the bartender at the hostel told me to just email the owner a picture of my credit card and ID and they'd charge my card. So i get back there with no cash since western union was closed, expecting everything was fine as I'd sent him the credit card info he requested - guess what.. he had packed up my stuff and said he wanted me to leave and accused "lying to him" about sending the credit info etc. I showed him the email and that I was not lying, and he told me to leave anyway. So I had to walk with all my luggage to the airport, borrow someone's phone, and book another hotel. The guy was a putz. There was hardly anyone there - 1 guest who was a "lady of the night" -she was a long term resident who was going out and doing nightly calls - and other than that maybe 1 or 2 people. I told him his business is a failure and he deserves it because he's a jerk.

Nice try, but it's in the middle of nowhere, they're totally disorganized, and owner was a jerk.

I wanted this place to be good, I really did. Riselle the manager was very helpful thru email and directions and recommendations on the island as well as Anguilla, but the place was just below average. She was training 2 girls when I got there. Maybe bad timing on my part. Waiting about 30 min at 3pm for my room.  When I got there the water was being worked on so no flushing the toilets or showers for a while. They fixed it. Also the Internet was down for a while then came back up. Day 2. Internet working, then down again. Day 3, still not working. Very frustrating if you run an online business. The dorm had the windows opened but the carpet smelled musky. Like dirty feet and Indian food combined. Like water stain musky. Bunk beds average. Don't expect too
Much for $25 USD a night. 

Note to owner: rip out the carpet in the dorms, it's old a musky. I'm sure full of mold. Put down some tile and that will solve that problem.

That's the negative. The plus side is very hot showers, very cold AC in the dorms at night. 3 minute walk from Juliana Airport and 15 min walk to Maho Beach and nice bars and restaurants. When you arrive they offer you a drink at the bar and the towel to shower is free. I really wanted to give this full stars but the infrastructure needs work.  They can blame the island and infrastructure all they want, but a successful business would fix these issues. The airport and other places had their wifi and water working fine. 

Good intentions, poor outcome =[

I think everyone needs to take everybody else's review with a grain of salt.  After all, this is a hostel you are staying in.  In my opinion, this is a great hostel for the price.  It was very clean and there was staff in there everyday cleaning the amenities, etc.  The owner, Richelle, was amazing!  She would lend a helping hand in any way and really wanted to ensure all of her people staying in her hostel were satisfied, had everything they needed and went out of her way to arrange transportation and give recommendations to activities.  There is a bar attached with a very friendly bartender and all workers were approachable and friendly.  I was very satisfied with my stay and would definitely return.  

I paid extra to have the private room with one other female.  It was definitely worth the upgrade as you get to lock your room.  The other options they have are a few rooms with several bunkbeds.  Everybody was very respectful and considerate to one another - a cardinal rule when staying in hostels.  There was a shower room with two showers per room that you had the option to lock if you wanted more privacy and a few single, locked bathrooms.  The bunkbeds were clean and comfortable and each room had it's own air conditioner.  The hostel also had free wifi included.

The location is FANTASTIC!  It is directly across the street from the airport so you can walk to and from it.  Transportation is easy to obtain from that location - you can easily hail down a bus or taxi.
