We loved it here. I booked this hotel as I am a fan of the BBC series Death in Paradise and wanted to visit Deshaies where it’s filmed.  Although slightly out of town, Tainos Cottages looked like an interesting place to stay and I’m so glad I chose it.

Initially we struggled to find Tainos and no one we asked seemed to be able to help (although could be our French accents).  So we parked up and were trying to work out what to say in French when we called to ask directions, when my phone rang & it was the hotel owner calling us. He spoke perfect English.  Thank God!!  He told us he was having some issues with road access so he directed us to the Grande Anse car park where he came to find us and helped us from there as access to his property required a short walk across unpaved ground and across a small stream.  It was fun and so worth it.

We were shown to our room which was a beautifully rustic cottage with a huge veranda with table, chairs, rocking chair, sofa and hammock and a Jacuzzi on a covered platform outside.  It was truly lovely. 
We were only there two nights and arrived after lunch on day one so did nothing much except have a couple of beers by the pool and a shower before going down to town for sunset cocktails and dinner.

The next day we spent an idyllic morning by the pool and then wandered down the beach for lunch at a beach bar, followed by a snooze in the hammock before another night down in town.  Perfect!

The hotel is only about 2k outside of town so an easy walk in daylight but you need a torch for the walk back.

Oh and I almost forgot…..Breakfast was great.  Freshly squeezed juice, fresh fruit, a wonderful selection of breads and the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had.  All washed down with a perfect pot of tea. They know us Brits love our tea and had a perfect brew.

Rustic and wonderful

I booked a bungalow up the road from Tainos for our family vacation. When our friends decided to come along I recommended they stay in Tainos based on the New York Times mention in 2012. They stayed there for a week and we were all so thrilled that they did! It is absolutely beautiful and amazing. Their bungalow was magical and the young couple that run it are super nice, welcoming, and helpful. I have only good things to say about it. It is definitely worth the price to be in such a special place, served amazing breakfast, and especially to be right on the beach to wake up to the sound of the ocean. It is not for you if you want a hotel with air conditioning and television. Despite the open air windows there were few bugs.
Breakfast was perfect - fresh pastries and fruits, very good coffee. 
Highly recommended. We can't wait for our next trip to Guadeloupe to stay at Tainos.
This is in Deshaies, not Trois Rivieres! It comes up on Trip Advisor in the wrong town.

Magical Place on the beach

This hotel is placed on the most beautiful beach on Guadalupe. There are 5 cottages and small restaurant for breakfast all made from wood and really unique. Best place on this Island. The staff is amazing, helpful and really friendly.

Really dirty and dilapidated!  We were floored by this place to the point that we wouldn't have stayed there if it was free rather than close to $500. Per night. It began with concern while driving down the driveway. Looked like a property let go years ago. We kept an open mind until we arrived at reception and viewed stained cushions, a total mess, really dirty with family members and kids running around presenting with no interest in our arrival. Walked us to a cottage. On route we saw cottages with no screens, wires hanging from them, broken wood. We couldn't believe it!  When leaving, the driveway landscape was so bad, it is not possible to view oncoming traffic from the main road further showing the apathy of this property's owners. Fortunately we found alternate lodging at a Langley Fort Royal resort, a few miles away which was wonderful for a fraction of the cost. It included a wonderful beach, water sports,  entertainment and breakfast. English speaking staff was another bonus. If you stay there, request an ocean front bungalow. Welll worth any upgrade cost.  When leaving, head south down to the traverse through the national Forest. shortly past  Deshaies, don't miss the Rain forest walk through with the animals . It was amazing! Further down the road, is a waterfall (cascade) where you can swim and get amszing photos. Enjoy!!  MTMB

Frightening! Run the other way!

I wish I could give a glowing review of this hotel. We arrived with high expectations having read encouraging reviews online. It's true that the Tainos is an exceptional property set in a postcard perfect setting with Indonesian-style cottages tucked away amidst palm trees and tropical vegetation. However, the hotel is currently undergoing a change in management and while I hope we were only unfortunate to stay during this transition, the services and amenities do not justify some of the most expensive hotel rates in Guadeloupe. We knew in advance that the cottages were "rustic", but as a previous reviewer mentioned, these are more like cabins with running water. Beautifully decorated yes, but sparse and short on comfort. Despite the mosquito nets, copious amounts of strong bug spray, and a trip to town to buy citronella candles, we spent two nights lying awake trying to ward off Mosquitos to no avail. We were the only guests at the hotels and the staff seemed overall startled by our arrival, despite having made a reservation. The pool is small and not well maintained. We were told the bar and restaurant were not open and the hotel could not accept credit cards (not convenient for rates that run upwards of 300 euros a night in the mid-season). No toiletries were provided and we had to ask for toilet paper. What I imagine was once the common area of the hotel has been taken over by the owners family so using the pool or the sun deck feels like imposing on someone's private space. I truly hope our experience was an anomaly as this hotel seems like it has the potential to be amazing. But until management decides on the direction of the hotel, I cannot recommend this hotel as the high prices were not at all justified for the lack of service and amenities.
