Taboo Muskoka

Among the many beautiful places to choose from (that we researched); the destination we chose, wasTaboo Muskoka Resort; to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. Following is a detailed/long read; yet well deserved & sharing, why we chose Taboo Muskoka: We sought a peaceful/serene/quiet experience, with a casual elegance, water amenities & a desire for a comfortable & clean suite with a good view. As well, we hoped for a genuine & welcoming, caring staff… What we received; was beyond peaceful/beyond our expectations…, (while indeed it was a stroke of luck, that a suite was available during high season; we acquired a 3rd floor lake view; I also believe it was due to the expertise & thoughtfulness of Demi @ Front desk reservations). Having stated the aforementioned; to ensure acquiring the room desired; I highly recommend booking well in advance! The suite was very SPACIOUS & in my opinion, provided a stunning view (that moved me deeply)! Upon entering Taboos lobby, we were greeted by Demi. Demi was extremely welcoming, has a beautiful infectious smile (that you can’t help, but smile back at)! She’s very knowledgeable (about the Hotel & surrounding area), she’s very professional & extremely accommodating & attentive too! I must note; in fairness to Taboo, we arrived early (around 2 pm ish; check in is @ 4 pm). Demi wanted to be sure all was as perfect as could be for our room, before we could use the room. Yet, we were invited to use the amenities. So…we decided to go down to the dock & take a Canoe out. There we found Zachary. He welcomed us, made sure we had life jackets…gave us a few pointers, then helped us launch. Tootling around a bit on lake Muskoka was so peaceful! To continue & mention when the room was ready: Of importance to us, were also the condition & cleanliness of the suite as a whole. (The linens were fresh, pillows & mattress comfortable. The bathroom was also very spacious & (trust me; I’m very particular about cleanliness) & found the bathroom (for a Hotel), far superior than most I’ve visited (& I’ve stayed @ 4 & 5 star plus, that have not all compared to Taboo!). The tub & shower were spacious, in mint condition & sparkled! …& to top off a chilly morning; the fireplace was so appreciated & enjoyed too! That added to the ambiance…& really set the tone for a wonderful suite experience! We were also searching for a good restaurant. While I read good reviews about the Boathouse Restaurant (which is on the grounds & directly on the lake); I thought to inquire with Demi. She highly recommended Boathouse; yet we should make a reservation (she offered to do so for us. Which was another plus, plus…!!!), yet, we decided to check it out 1st, as we do with most things! When we visited the Boathouse Restaurant; we walked into a clean, sunny (with beautiful views), well organized dining room & were greeted by a delightful young lady named Rhianna. (Rhianna made our reservation & asked if it was for a special occasion?…I shared yes, yet we are celebrating quietly). She smiled & thanked me. While eating out on the deck is available; I made mention that we would like a ‘specific’ table (we chose an inside corner with lake view)! She advised what the best time to return for dinner would be. Thus, she accommodated us!…’also…it gets better!…Chef ‘Fluff’, happened to be nearby! He introduced himself to us, shook our hands, then carried on. Later that evening when we returned for our dinner. We were greeted by Kait, the dining rm Mngr). Kait was extremely professional, congenial, attentive & very generous too! We were also very cheerfully greeted by Kat (our Server & Event Co ordinator); who was extremely efficient (as the dining room was full; yet did not affect the excellent service at all)! Kat made some wonderful recommendations; to which we chose. Annnddd… let me share…the food experience…!!! We started off with the Calamari Fritti. Kat, with her beautiful smile; brought out/served to us & ‘stated: made with love’!…Indeed it felt as such! I must share; I cook & I know good food & prep…thus, I can confidently share; the Calamari was superb!…It was not greasy, not overcooked & had just the right amount of heat! The presentation of both our meals was (almost) too beautifully presented to eat! (Almost ;) !). The meat was tender, the vegetables were done to perfection (not soggy/perfectly firm) & the potatoes delicious too!…The portion(s) were very generous!…None of that: where’s the rest of the food comment ;)! We were also offered, lovely drinks & dessert too! Our dessert was brought out by Fluff!…he’s among The Best & Most Jovial of Chefs we ever met! In summation for dinner…it was among the tops in my books & due to our request to celebrate our special occasion quietly; while generous & extremely well done; was very respectful! I thank the staff, again & again, for that! Annnddd…the sunset from the deck was stunning!!! As well, our lake view suite had a stunning sunset vista too! Day 2…Play time (yes, these seniors love outdoor activities)! We decided to go for a good hike. That too, did not disappoint!…we were given detailed info. for the trail, by Demi & Carolina, who shared to us; “be careful”, there’s a large tree that runs across trail. (I just might have tripped over that, had there not been a head’s up ;) !). The trail can be as short or long as you want it to be. It provides serenity & cardio too! As well, it is located right across the street from Taboo!…another plus, plus…! When we returned; we decided to try a paddle board!…We never tried that particular water craft & were unsure…yet we were up for it!…@ the dock we met Jacob. Jacob was very welcoming & took his role seriously (in a good way). He made absolute sure we had our life jackets & tutored us on the how to of paddle boarding. He also helped us launch. I loved it! My husband quickly realized he did not like it; thus he returned the paddle board & decided on a Kayak, which he was very pleased with! We spent almost 2 hours out on the water, having a wonderful time! When we returned, Ann the Manager was available to help us dock. She was professional & very grateful that we made mention of her staff (Carolina, Zach & Jacob). Also to mention, while we did not partake…Taboo has a lovely Golf course & Tennis experience too! To top off our evening; we decided to go down to what we found; to be a beautiful campfire (please see the lovely photo attached, no one there; because we arrived early)! Overlooking Lake Muskoka! There we found Sam. Sam had created a spectacular fire glow annnddd…to top it off, asked if we & the other guests would enjoy playing a memory game & all of us, certainly did!!! It was delightful!! As well, we made new friends too! The experience we had @ Taboo, provided the Casual Elegance we were indeed looking for! And in my opinion, is among the tops in my repertoire of vacation/get aways to date! I highly recommend this location & would most definitely visit again! The End, for now ;)! Mrs. Sharon
