We had a great week at Starfish Cayo Largo.The staff that works there are so nice.Are butler Yanelis went out of her way to make are stay great.She is always there to help you if you need something.We do not have to wait in line to book for the restaurants she makes the reservations for use.She even did something for my birthday.The rooms are cleaned everyday.The beach is just great and the water is so clear.

Starfish ,  Regressamos , we were there in december, but had to go back one more Week.  Back on  9/02/2024 ,  Hoping to have our favorite Butler , Yunet Zaldiar ,  She  gave us Excelent service, also all the staff , and management.
  Looking to have our Tequila & cuba libre ,and  fish , Looking at the Beach, Hasta Pronto,  Yunet  & friends.,   Elda & juan.

This is a quiet place especially if you want to unplug and relax. 
This hotel is very safe to be in.  Only  people who work in tourism industry are on this island.
They treat all guests with respect and attention and I would suggest you return the same. 
Management - Alfredo - makes sure everything is in order and all the guests are taken good care of.

Through out the day music entrainment is provided by local DJ Mario. 
There is also musical band entertaining you during your stay.   They play classic Cuban music.

Excursions or Trips offered:

- Catamaran trip Reef.  $140CAD
- Sunset Catamaran trip  $70USD - (this might be incorrect)
- Turtles habitat + full Cuban experience dinner and music - $44CAD

Internet is free and accessible almost throughout hotel. 

Animation team provides nightly entertainment for kids and adults.

This is dated hotel with exceptional staff.

They will assist you in booking restaurants dinners, information about the resort and any questions you may have about facilities. 

Monica from Sunwing is an exceptional person.  She will help you with any questions you may have.  She is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian. 
When she is your local rep, you are in safe hands. 
Hotel main Beach area is dependent of the season.  
At this moment if there is minimal wind you will enjoy walks on the beach. 

Bring some bug spray just in case.  Some of us have low tolerance for mosquitoes. 

There are 2 nude beaches on the left and right of the main beach. 

During the day only few people stay at the beach or by the pool area.  
Most of them leave resort to get to white sandy beach part of the island. Playa Paraiso and Playa Sirena.

There are 2 main beaches available at Cayo Largo. 
You will take local “train” for free or taxi costing you $2 per person each way. 
It is about 8 km distance so I would advise not to walk on this sandy road. 

1. Playa Paraiso
Bar is available on this beach.   Secluded area, quiet and beautiful sandy beach with available umbrellas and lounge chairs. 
1. Playa Sirena
This is where free lunch is included and soft drinks and alcohol. You may also enjoy lobster lunch for additional $25 CAD. 

At Playa Sirena you will enjoy long walks on the beach, animation team taking care of entertainment and place to lie down. 


The staff are fantastic always happy to see the tourists.  The Ranchon staff are amazing and the food was wonderful.  When we were there they were going to shut the ranchon for al-cart dinners which was a blow to the tourist and staff, this is where we go for our 2 reservations.  Hopefully they have changed their minds on that.  This is a great resort and wonderful staff

Welcome to the hotel pelicano! (insert hotel California song here) 
Let me start off by saying that we do not travel often. It had been Almost 15 years since we travelled last to varadero when our kids were small. My husband and I travelled together to celebrate his 50th Birthday and decided on Hotel Pelicano to arrive Friday February 14, 2020 - Valentine's Day night. We chose this resort because Cayo Largo sounded beautiful and even though this resort was a 3.5 star it got a 4 star rating on trip advisor. We were ready for anything (or so we thought - see sunwing review) we ended up arriving at 2:00am on Saturday.  Roger and Gabriella checked us in and would remain two bright spots of our vacation. Dropped our luggage off in the room - not the ritz- but hell with it we needed a drink. Off to the 24 hr bar. Yosmanis (sp) was there and made us some drinks and ham sandwiches. He doesn't smile but don't let that put you off. He always took care of our needs and I don't think he ever sleeps!  Wake up-coffee-beach-bubbas full-repeat. yes we ate in between.  The Ranchon is by the water and magical. We did have a lobster dinner one night and went again for another night because Noel is the best! They do a beautiful lunch buffet too! Regular Buffet is good. Just busy and we didn't want to miss a minute of the glorious weather by being inside. After some reflection we decided that this was in fact paradise and we felt so lucky to have experienced it! So much more to tell Roger brought my husband a bday cake. We had champagne by the water a beautiful sunset cruise and so much more. Sunwing cut our vacation short (they never should have landed us in the first place - see sunwing review) so we didn't get to experience it all (others stayed longer for free but one gentlemen payed for the extra days with his life) Wonderful people (staff and guests) Not pretentious. This was my first time at Hotel Pelicano and it won't be my last. The beach with it's powdered sand and clear blue-green waters was just perfect. The staff are all smiles and always ready to help. The food was amazing! I was warned not to have high expectations about the food, but even the experienced Cuba travelers that were with us were blown away by the quality and quantity of the food. We are returning again in the spring, and will return every year. 

This was our 3rd visited to Hotel Pelicano, Cayo Largo Cuba.  It did not disappoint.  We had a wonderful time.  Relaxing and so very enjoyable.  So nice to be back to this very welcoming resort.  We love the beaches of Cayo Largo, they are the BEST!
Food for us was always good.  Staff well there are no words to describe this caring, generous bunch of people.  Always welcoming and willing to help in any way.  
The resort itself is no 5 star but to us this is ok.  Everything for us is just perfect!  If you are expecting a 5 star resort don't go.  But if you want a relaxing, enjoyable vacation and enjoy Sun, Sand and beautiful Beaches, this is the place for you.
We really enjoyed this visit and plan to go back again!

I visited this resort with my sister, father and step-mom.   
Check-in:  Was a little bit long.  However considering the bus brought everyone from the airport at once it is understandable.  Once we were at the front check-in was easy.  Be sure to have all people and passports with you.

Rooms:  Beds were comfortable, rooms were clean.  We had a large shower.  The water was warm, not really hot.  Lots of space and a nice balcony

Grounds:  The grounds were clean, there were a few bugs in the evening, be sure to bring bug spray.  They were always working on the grounds and the beach.

Food:  Better than expected.  Lots of variety.  Soups were very tasty, calamari at the beach restaurant was great.  I also loved the bread and Omelette bar.  Not a lot of choice for dessert, but there was always something.

The bar was good, drinks were good.  There usually was not a long line-up.  Food avaible throughout the day at the different options.  Reservations were easy to get.   The entertainment staff were fun, friendly and seemed to really enjoy working there.   I learned a few dance moves, and my sister improved her volleyball game.  (on the beach and in the pool)   I would defiantly visit again.  

This was my first trip to Cuba. I didn't even know that the island of Cayo Largo existed until I discovered this resort through a "last Minute" website.  I wanted to escape work, computers, cell phones and the city for a while and just sit on a beach.  This is exactly what Starfish offered.  The entire island has been closed down for almost 3 years following a Hurricane and then of course Covid-19.  It is obvious that the owners have invested a lot of money on the property.  Most of the resort is still closed as they continue to repair, repaint, renovate and refresh the property.  I had a very nice room, (a little small, but I didn't got there to stay in my room).  There was a problem with hot water for the first few days as they were still struggling with their reopening plan, but it was fixed and there was always lots of hot water after that.  I had been warned that Cuba is not know for their food, but I was pleasantly surprised at the selection at the buffets and the food was tasty.  I had no complaints.  The beaches on the island are beautiful, however, there are some areas where the beach has been washed away, (but not the Starfish Beach).  All of the staff were friendly and helpful, (even the construction workers.  All in all, it was an excellent trip and I was very happy.  HOWEVER, there were a few things that could be better. 1) The wi-fi service is terrible!  I had to go to the front desk every day to get my log-in credentials reset.  You had to re-sign into the network several times each day, sometimes, every hour.  Very frustrating. 2) The main dining room acoustics are terrible.  It was very noisy at meal times and was difficult to have a quiet conversation due to the noise.  They need to install acoustic baffles or fabric to absorb the noise. 3) It would be nice if they put signs up over the food selections so that you knew what you were eating.

 relaxing with to nicest beach in cuba. we like to walk. best snorkeling, the place to relax. dont go if you want to party ! hotel fine and food is what to expect in cuba.
