We spent 4 nights at Toki no Kakera, and we enjoyed every minute of it. Like previous reviewers have said, Kaz, the owner, has put a lot of hard work and love into this place. In all honesty, Kaz is what makes TnK what it is. It was great to have someone around who knew the area (and spoke fluent english), and who was totally down with hanging out and shooting the breeze with us. Kaz keeps a whole menagerie of animals on the farm, chickens, cats (Nyan-san and Nahanaha), a pig (Juicy) and a goat (Pina), and they are all wonderful and friendly. Take a walk at night to hear a symphony of frogs and see dancing fireflies. If you're willing to try something a little different and be a part of the 'family' at TnK you really wont regret it. Our room was quite big (even by western standards) and the rotenburo (outdoor bath) was a nice touch. A little frog took a bath with me :) Kaz's cooking is great, with fresh eggs straight out of the chicken. The only warning we'll leave you with: if the roosters don't wake you up at 6am, the town alarm will (it also goes off at noon and 5pm), but it's all part of life off the beaten track in small town Japan.
