Schanze Nozawa

Really helpful and knowledgeable staff, gave great advise for ski runs and dinner locations. Schanze probably has the best location in the area. Breakfast was awesome too. Definitely my top choice on my next trip. I’m will be back!

We got a traditional room with an en-suite, it was cozy and I couldn’t be happier with my stay there. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful (special thanks to Francisco). Everthing was clean and the futons were comfortable. The best part about this lodge is that it’s the closest accom to the snow, it’s super close and it’s almost possible to ski directly to the lodge. Thanks Schanze, would defiantly come back!

We’ve had a wonderful time staying at Schanze in Nozawa, such a warm welcome from the hosts who could not do enough to make everyone so comfortable. Great location & cosy atmosphere, offering local advice for the village, skiing & eating recommendations. Can’t wait to return next year!

Great location 100m easy walk from the Gondola station which is great as most other accommodation in the village requires a hike up steep slopes in gear.

Next to a great bar as well which serves dinner as well as drinks.

Rooms are newly renovated and clean. Breakfast is provided; simple but tasty.
 Already planning to return next year.

Had a fantastic experience staying at Schanze Nosawa. Thanks to the team for their recommendations and hospitality. Great location too! Liiterally next to the ski gondola and just next door to a cosy child firendly restaurant. Five minutes walk to the main street of Nozawa Onsen village where you'll find a wide range of restaurants, shops and onsens when not on the ski slopes.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Schanze. Nozawa is an amazing ski resort-beautiful, deep snow with powder. On arrival, we enjoyed the hospitality & local knowledge of Eugene. He recommended and showed us on a map various places we could eat dinner (or lunch), the different types of onsen and how they work. Eugene continued to give us friendly advice and provide support during our stay (and cooked up some local specialities one evening-mmm!) We enjoyed meeting other guests in the common lounge/breakfast dining areas. Breakfast was ample with a variety of foods.Kelvin too was most helpful.
We were happy with our traditional room which overlooked the ski slopes and ski jump.
Overall a fantastic experience!

We stayed at Schanze for 1 week during January 2020. A great member of staff called Joe picked us up from the Iyama train station in a van. The location was perfect, being only a couple of minutes walk to the Nagasaki Gondola.
We were under the assumption we had separate rooms, however the 5 of us (5 adults) ended up all in the same room - not exactly what we would like. But it was ok! We had our own drying room downstairs, so we didn’t have to share the squished one upstairs which was lucky!
They delivered breakfast foods to our room every three days, so we could make our own in the room with the kitchenette. Bread, eggs, bacon, fruit, yoghurt, packet noodles, coffee pods, juice and milk. Really great!
They also supplied us with 2, 5 day lift passes for half the price. And upon request we could do washing at anytime.
The staff also helped us book dinners for our time here in Nozawa, because you can’t get dinner at most places without a reservation. Definitely book dinners for your time here. The restaurants get booked out fast. 
The staff are very accommodating, and I would recommend this place to anyone coming to Nozawa! 

Location location location.   Fantastically close to the main ski gondola with 200m walk only.  Could literally ski to door.   
Accomodation nice and clean and warm.  Hosts happy to make recommendations and book restaurants and suggest other ski resorts for day trips.  
We booked the junior suite.  Was too small for a family of 3 (1 x 11 year old boy) but the skiing made up for it.  The junior suite is small and only takes a couple.  Not suitable for a family even with a small child.  
Breakfast goods supplied in room are adequate and hosts readily replace.  Not as good as a Japanese breakfast but there is the convenience of eating it when you want especially if you want a lie in. I didn’t as I couldn’t wait to get out early for the snow.  We had amazing conditions with at least 5 days with 30cm fresh powder overnight.  
The village has certainly been found and sadly you need to book for food most nights or will be disappointed.  
Onsen 250 metres away is great and  my son and I used every day after skiing.  NEO bar next door is in my view best bar in the village with supper chilled atmosphere and a good selection of drinks and food.  Use the lodge hosts knowledge of best places to hire equipment as we certainly saved a lot through this.  
We would stay again and will definitely be back but junior suite too small for us.   
If you are looking for a great location to learn to ski then NO is brilliant for the long easy green runs but plenty of good runs for strong skiers as well.
