Honningsvag

We were shunted from our scheduled hotel, the Scandic Honningsvag in town without warning or explanation.  This hotel is a barracks style, and it reminded me of a large school camp, with a large mess hall (restaurant) that you walked to exposed to the weather.  No availability to walk in cold or wet weather without the necessary clothes into the restaurant.  We stayed in a tiny room, with a tiny bathroom about the size of a cruise ship, with no desk, no tv, no wifi in rooms, and poor lighting.  The positives were a heated bathroom floor, and a heater in room, and all things considered with the temperature outside (in the middle of summer) at 5 degrees and constant drizzle, it was better than sleeping in the cold and rain.

Better Than Sleeping in the Cold and Rain

On a two night stay travelling on local coach with driver (not on the luxuria coach with drivers) with Leger holidays on a 16 day Arctic Circle and the land of the midnight sun holiday, apparently this used to be the Olympic Village, over two floors with no lift, rooms were clean and comfortable, no tv or hairdryer or tea and coffee making facilities, we enjoyed a buffet style dinner and breakfast, meals were on a set time of 45 mins a setting to eat, you could sit upstairs in the lounge area after your evening meal, as the evenings stayed light we enjoyed nice walks around the area the views and scenery were amazing, the hotel is in a excellent location, staff friendly and helpful. On our first night at the hotel we were taken at 9:30pm by local coach and driver to the North Cape, the north cape hall is a vast complex with cafe, restaurant, toilets, large souvenir shop, small museum and a video cinema. We saw the globe of the north cape and the midnight sun which was absolutely perfect, we had fantastic photos.  On our second day staying at the hotel we went with local coach and driver to visit Honningsvag, Skarsvag and Kamoyaer fishing villages and tea and waffles in the Christmas house.
I enjoyed my two nights stay at the Scandic Nordkapp hotel.

North Cape & The Midnight Sun

Good location close to North Cap.
Worth the price, clean simple rooms, good beds, friendly staff. Good breakfast, dinner buffet ok. We will stay there again when visiting the region. Nice surrounding.

Good location for visiting North Cap

- No tv in the room.
- No internet in the room.
- The food was so bad I couldn’t eat. 
- The rooms small and a very small bathroom however was the rooms clean

In summary only stay at this hotel if you only are too sleep.

So sad…

This should never be called a Scandic hotel,as quality is lower,but on the flip side,being so far up north,it is fine. The breakfast buffet did not have many items and the evening buffet was very lousy and there was not much different foods. The staff was very caring and accomodative.The room looked like a ship cabin and the bathroom was all plastic. There was no wifi in the room and no TV.Even elderly people were given rooms on 1st and 2nd floor and had to carry their luggage up

2 star hotel in good location

The location is everything. The cleanness is a bonus. The breakfast and the facilities are minimal, but if you use it for overnight sleep before visiting Nordcapp is just perfect. The price tag is pretty high, but everything is expensive in Norway...

Good hotel where you need it at most

Rather simple rooms but clean and generally ok. One key issue was that the tap water was not drinkable due to maintenance work, and the hotel did not provide any free water bottles as would have been the right thing to do. Breakfast was ok and provided in a rather nice main building. The whole hotel seems too be targeted mostly to large groups.

This should never be called a Scandic hotel, it is not the usual standard. I would call it a hostel or a hotel only suitable for backpacker or may be bus tourist on a low budget.

The only positive thing there is to say is that there is free parking.

A lousy hostel

At our arrival at the hotel, we were informed that because of renovation of the water pipeline, water was not drinkable in the rooms. We hoped the hotel would offer at least 1L bottle per guest. On the contrary we were invited to buy bottles at the hotel bar. Since this was renovation ( this means that all the work was planned in advance ) and NOT an accident involving the water pipeline, the direction of the hotel should have offered gratis water in the rooms.

In the past years I have visited quite often Norway because of the beauty of the landscapes but I feel that the system often does not work as good as Norwegians want you to believe. They say all the time they are the best in the world in that and that and that again but in reality they have quite bad quality regarding hotels and services in general (Norway lack the star-system for hotel ranking!!!!). They are used to criticized southern Europe when it comes to service but I got the impression that in this kind of situation in a similar Spanish or Italian hotel you will have gotten a compensation. So please dear Norwegian, stop saying that you are the best of the best. Oil made you rich but you are still fishermen, farmers and woodmen in the way you behave and think!

No drinking water in the rooms - No alternative but buying some bottles

As with all Scandic Hotels this hotel has no free coffee or tea and no free computers. The breakfast and rooms were OK though. I should of asked for a sheet as my singlet and pyjama coat was wet in the morning with perspiration
