Is this resort still operating? We paid for our accommodation in full before Covid and have heard nothing from them since. I’ve made enquirers about rebooking but to no avail. I’m sad for them if they have had to close but would like to know if this is the case so that I can research other options.

I deeply regret not doing enough research before booking this place. Before moving to this resort we had just stayed at a beautiful Samoan owned resort in Savaii where the owners were extremely kind and offered us a wonderful experience and made us feel at home. It was like night and day in terms of how our experience got turned into an awful hostile one at Sa’Moana. 
This is not a Samoan owned resort! Book a Samoan owned resort and give your money to the Samoan community. The owners of this place are Incredibly awful and capitalise off Samoan land and their Samoan Staff are severely underpaid. I know this because I made friends with one of their Samoan staff who then stopped talking to me out of fear of the owners. He was deeply unhappy working at this resort but he said he had no other job and needed any money he can get to provide for his family. He was incredibly fearful of the owners. It was disgusting! 
This place kept charging us fees that they wouldn’t explain and when we queried them they called us “free loaders”. Be careful, the owners will try to charge you hidden costs and not provide receipts or explanations.
On one of the days during our stay we asked if there was transport and the owners offered us a ride in their bus -they didn’t mention that they would charge us an exorbitant amount for this bus ride- we asked the driver to drop us off at another resort where we had friends and enjoyed a day there. When we returned to Sa’Moana we were questioned as to why we had gone to another resort - we were being questioned, controlled and policed by the owners of this resort. Obviously they had spoken to their bus driver and their bus driver told them where he had dropped us off! I mean this is just weird, like they use their staff to watch where and who their customers engage with. I felt really uneasy staying at this place. 
We were then charged an extreme amount for the bus ride there, we weren’t aware of this charge until we checked out to leave. It felt like we were in a prison and being severely taken advantage of- the worst part is how they treat their Samoan staff- it’s absolutely disrespectful to Samoa and the Samoan culture. These people do not deserve your business or money! They have enough already from ripping off their customers and not paying their staff decent wages. 
The owners told us not to talk to or make friends with their staff. The owner will most likely deny every negative review and cannot acknowledge when they are in the wrong, when you bring up a complaint or query with them they become hostile and defensive and will attack you with insults - instead of acknowledging their terrible customer service. 
Please note we stayed here a few years ago - the only date options in the dropdown list was for 2020. I also didn’t write a review sooner because I didn’t want the owners to know who I was and was worried about the implications for the staff that I spoke to. I didn’t want them to be treated any worse than they already were. Hence the review years later, this experience has troubled me for a long time. This resort should not be operating.

OWNERS ARE HOSTILE - THE WORST EXPERIENCE

Visited with family and we stayed in 2 Family Lofts and The Beach House.
Felt like we had resort to ourselves some days as guests are out alot in the day. Kids loved the island beach life, snorkeling, in the pool, kayaking.
Walked down to survivor beach which also has great snorkeling.
Staff happy to set up a big table for us all to sit together at every meal.
Good choice of food, lots for the kids and nice cocktails for sunset.
Hire a car to get out and about.

Great for groups

Just back from Samoa and had a great time.  Sa'Moana is unique in location on the stunning south coast.  We had 5 nights here.  Originally booked a smaller room and we were upgraded to Alofa which was great.  Had our own fridge and lovely outdoor shower.  Ceiling fans were cranked a lot of the time we were in our rooms.  Alofa has a large rocking chair on the deck out the front with a coffee table.  Some positives were, beautiful location, very well kept grounds, sweeping done every morning, the staff were very friendly, perfect for downtime, good location to other things to do, a rental 4WD is a must though.  

Some negatives, no hot water in our shower, we didn't alert the staff as I had read this was common and for us it didn't actually matter but it would to some.  We were there 5 nights and only had our sheets/towels changed for the last night.  I would suggest changing them every third night with that length of stay.  Also, we would have loved to have sat under the trees in front of our unit but there were no loungers or seats to use.  I think loungers in front of each unit would be great to read/rest during the day under the shade of the trees.  



Gorgeous Spot

We travelled as a group of 6 - grandparents, parents and two children (4 and 16 months) and we were lucky enough to be upgraded to the Beach House (thank you!)- which is perfect for families and I would highly recommend it if you're wanting to stay here with little ones. There's heaps of space and privacy, a lounge, a big deck and your own private beach with lots of fish life - also far away enough from everyone that you don't have to worry too much about how noisy the kids are! 
Sa'Moana ticked all the boxes for us for our type of holiday - it's relaxed, idyllic, secluded, no tv or WIFI and no phone reception and absolute beach front - just what we were after.
Yes, the road is really bad - rough and rugged - a shocker the first time (in our rented people mover!).... but so worth it to get to Sa'Moana - just got to take it easy, go slow and after a few times you're used to it. 
We stayed for 7 nights and went driving and exploring every 2nd day as we just loved hanging out and swimming and snorkelling and making the most of the beautiful place. We visited quite a few other resorts along the south coast and we all agreed for location, views, access to snorkelling and a relaxed atmosphere - this was the place to be. 
The service from the staff was relaxed and friendly and they were always ready to help out if needed.

Amazing location - We would stay again!

The bumpy drive is worth the beautiful destination at Salamumu beach. Sea breeze, white sand, delicious food, cleanest public toilet experience in Samoa.  Lots of opportunities for postcard photos.  Lovely hosts and very welcoming.

Sunday lunch

Awesome spot and great staff but if you like your fish frozen and over cooked when told fresh then this is ya place. Would definitely return to drink beers on the beach and enjoy the location but would not eat here again.

Cool spot

We spent 3 nights at Sa’moana and would come back again. Sa’moana is set up to provide a genuine beach resort experience without compromising the feel and thrill of being in Samoa. Great value for money. Comfortable room, excellent food and plenty to do. We had strong winds during our stay which made some water sports more challenging. Moses and the team in the restaurant were always super friendly and made the the best cocktails we had during our 12 day visit to Samoa. Definitely give this place a look in.

Amazing atmosphere 

We recently spent three nights at Sa'Moana. If you're into to peaceful off the beaten track and off the grid this the place for you.  The sound of the ocean constantly drowning out all the stress and worries you may be carrying, a place to completely relax and rejuvenate.
Although the resort is a little tired and in need of some TLC and imagination, Sa'Moana was a wonderful place to spend a few days.
Staying longer? Be warned you may get a little bored with the breakfast and meal menus. 
On the whole a lot more positive than negative on this little resort. Suggest hire your own transport.
