Lovely hotel with a clean and spacious room, we had a twin room, it was large and provided us with everything we needed. car parking was included which was a added bonus for us. Would recommend this hotel and enjoyed our stay.

Trendy hotel

First trip to the area and we found this hotel due to the excellent location to the town centre and where we were visiting.
Modern interior clean and large superior room, staff were friendly and helpful with providing directions.

Perfect for what we needed

Great location to the town, clean and comfortable, nice trendy little bar, paid extra for breakfast and all freshly cooked. parking was included. 
Will be back on next visit to Taunton if we are in the area.

Lovely Stay

We had stayed at your hotel in the past and were looking forward to a weekend at a family event in Taunton.  We arrived at around 12:30pm and the check in procedure was chaotic, despite there being three staff on the front desk, (albeit one of them a new hire who seemed to be the only person with any customer service experience).  The staff were rude, saying we were too early to check-in despite the confirmation email saying check-in was from 12 noon.  The room was damp and musty with a soaking wet table, chair and carpet where the window had been left open in the rain.  The shower door was also off its hinges, and this was not repaired despite it being reported to the staff; some of lights in the room were also not working making it very dark.

When we went down at 09:30 on the Sunday morning we were brusquely told that there was no breakfast since it was only served from 0800-0900.  At no time was this ever communicated to us (and I believe it is unreasonable).


Very poor 

Lovely old building and friendly manageress. Was disappointed though as we booked expecting to be able to eat at hotel as stated on website. Breakfast is only served from 7am to 9am, a bit early when on holiday, also no other meals served at all. Comfy bed though.

Disappointing

I made a reservation through booking.com to stay here. However, due to the train strikes  I had to cancel because there was no way of me getting down to the hotel. I called and asked if they could waiver the cancellation cost of £98 which they refused. 

Usually a hotel would understand this situation and they would cancel, but not on this time. The man I spoke to was showed zero empathy! He knew that the reason for my cancellation was beyond my control and he showed zero effort to try to understand my situation. After pleading with the man all he said in response "well these things happen". 

I would not have been this upset if he showed a bit of empathy but was still unable to cancel the booking but he clearly did not care and just wanted the money. I did not get his name but I called at 19:27 on 14/03/2023 so whoever was working at that time, I am referring to you! 

On a brighter note, I dodged a major bullet by not staying there and I suggest you ALL do the same because they clearly do not value customer service!

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

The main problem was that whilst out for the evening the heating was turned off. When we got in at about 1pm the room was already cold. It got much colder during the night and we both had disturbed sleep because of it.  The air was freezing and the duvet was too thin to cope. No extra blankets anywhere. Additionally, only one small towel and a hand towel for the both of us. Asked for more but never arrived.  Staff were polite but perfunctory with no genuine customer care or warmth.  Breakfast was very limited choice but  good except for cheap sausages. Once served no one checked up or offered more coffee etc.  Our guests in the other 2 rooms were ok and we have stayed before but not sure we will bother again.  

Disappointing.

The lady who took our booking on the phone was very helpful and efficient. She asked us if we wanted a ground floor or upper level room. We asked for a ground floor as my husband has just had major surgery and would find three flights of stairs difficult.
On arriving at the hotel around 3 pm there was nobody on reception. We rang the bell and waited almost five minutes before a man arrived. He did not greet us other than to ask if we had a booking. He found our key and pointed the payment machine at my husband. Then he left the building immediately. We then realised that the room was on the third floor. After ringing the bell again he returned after another five minutes and asked us if we wanted to check in, he did not recognise us. We said we had booked a ground floor room and he said we had not and there were none available because everyone else had already checked in. I asked if we could have help carrying our bags upstairs, he said no because he had just injured his back at the gym. He then left the building immediately. I carried all four bags and made two trips.

The room was mostly clean and comfortable although the carpet was stained.

The full English breakfast was excellent and the lady who served us could not have been more helpful.

Overall good but reception needs improvement

We got to the hotel early and there wasn’t a manned reception. We had to wait for our key and for someone to arrive after a fairly long journey. We were shown to our rooms to find them freezing, and had to wait for two hours for the heating to come on and we couldn’t have a shower to refresh as we were going out in the eve as it was too cold. It apparently has room service, book in room with menu etc. couldn’t get anything to eat at about 4pm. So had to go to Sainsbury’s to get food. The hotel has Wi-Fi but could only get connected at reception. Or rooms right above reception. Not a great experience. 

Not worth the money

This was an email sent to the Manager Amanda James of the Taunton House Hotel on the 1st September 2022

Dear Amanda
We stayed at your hotel on Sunday 28th August 2022 for one night as we were going to a concert in the town. 
When we arrived I checked we had booked a Superior Room and was advised by the female Receptionist that was the case. 
We paid £151.20 with breakfast. It is by no means cheap but I expected to have a decent room for that price. 
On arrival in my room I was drawn to some stains on the carpet and how old and unappealing it was. Part of it
was rucked up by the bathroom. I felt rather disappointed by the overall appearance.  In fact that’s an understatement. I didn’t want to take my shoes off as they were much cleaner than the carpet. 
I sat down on the settee and then noticed a considerable amount of dust and debris under the bed.  It was very visible. Who ever vacuum’s literally just scoots around the room. For the amount of dust under the bed it could not have been done for quite a while. This was not good enough and made me feel quite I’ll. there were stains on the settee and something stuck to the carpet. 
I was in a hurry as needed to get to Vivary Park. 
On my return to the room at the end of the night I retrieved a pillow from the closet and noticed it was very old and covered in stains!! I could not use it. I was horrified. 
I went to pull the curtains according to the instructions on the wall to the left. There wasn’t a pull cord. The curtains on the left were falling apart in my hands and were all shredded and very badly stained. The dust coming off if them was unacceptable. One window was broken so could only open one side. 
The bathroom was adequate but needed a deep clean. 
I was very upset by the lack of cleanliness and shabby appearance of the room in general. 
I had a terrible sleep due to the dust. I suffer with Respiratory problems and felt quite breathless at times. 
When I came down to breakfast there was no room for us so we needed to wait in the bar area until a table became free. Eventually we sat down and ordered our beverages and toast. There were no glasses for the juice and we waited quite a while for them to appear. The toast was burnt and needed to ask for extra. The breakfast overall was quite nice. 
I went to reception and complained about my room and the overall experience. I also demonstrated how disappointed I was with the cost for a superior room. God knows what the other rooms are like if mine was of a higher standard. The female Receptionist who was also there the day before for check in did not offer any apology at all. She just looked at me. I was so cross and turned back to her to express my annoyance that she could not even say ‘sorry’. 
I did not want to make a fuss in front of my friend Mrs Connors as she came alone as her husband was to ill to come as he has just been diagnosed with tumours in his liver and bowel so she came away for a little break to help her adjust to what she has to endure ahead. 
While I was having my breakfast another customer looked at me and started complaining about her room. She also informed me she found condoms and massage gel in the drawer next to her bed!!  Her room was also dirty and she was not at all happy stating she would never stay again.
I don’t mind a room having oldish furniture but cleanliness is paramount especially after Covid. It is such a shame as potentially you have a lovely building with some interesting features. 
I would like a favourable response to my email. 

To date I have not received a response to my email even though I sent it twice.  I have not reviewed this until now as hoped I would receive some sort of acknowledgement.

Think twice before booking the Taunton House Hotel as complaints are not addressed or acknowledged
