Rifugio Cavaglia

A most charming hotel on a quite remote and small plateau between Poschiavo and St Moritz. Cavaglia only has a couple of houses but wide meadows, forests, and, surrounded by mountains, some beautiful waterfalls. Once the last train has left, the place is pure nature, with cowbells ringing, birds singing, waterfalls and beautifully clean air smelling of hay and forests. The hotel is small, authentic and beautiful. Our room is wood panelled, the beds comfortable, everything is clean (well, we are in Switzerland). We had a simple breakfast with good coffee sitting outside in the sunshine. On our first night we also had dinner outside. Risotto with mushrooms - absolutely divine. Our second dinner was most delicious too. The hosts and staff are most friendly, welcoming and helpful. This is a beautiful and charming place. It is not the Ritz Carlton - no need for high heels or, even though it gets a bit chilly in the evenings, fur coats.
