Rhodes Nyanga Hotel

Rooms range from quite small and basic through to the fancy ones (room 1 or 2 and room 8).  But all very clean and comfortable and good value.  Friendly professional staff.   Looking forward to going back.

As a group of 7 we recently spent two nights at Rhodes at the beginning and end of hiking on the turaco trail. Although the hotel is in need of some TLC, it was as quaint and charming as I remembered, with helpful friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms. The dinner was excellent, the trout cooked to perfection, and a great breakfast. Thanks to everyone for a very pleasant stay.

This is a lovely hotel with a lot of history. It sits on land once owned by Cecil Rhodes and is now in the Nyanga National Park. We were there in the low season so the place was pretty quiet. The service was excellent, simple meals in the dining room and drinks by the fire in the bar. There is trout fishing in nearby lakes and grilled trout is always on the menu.  The staff has a lot of pride in their hotel and the park that encompasses it.  The park has several waterfalls and lakes to explore and Mt Nyangani, the highest in Zimbabwe, to climb. And if you make the climb, you may get the staff to present you with a certificate of your accomplishment! To get to some a high clearance vehicle is recommended, especially in around the rainy season

I enjoyed my three nights stay in the peacefull surroundings and got excellent service from the staff. Enjoyed the laid back bar. Hope to get back some day. The museum is worth a visit. Possible to get to by bus from Harare.

This is a very good option in Nyanga. A rustique nice atmosphere with old furnitures and historical wibe. Really like it!! A bit of maintainence here there is needed, but its clean, charming, nice staff.
Only thing i can say is a drawback is the food. A bit more passion and creativity on the food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner could absolutt be better.
Otherwice, very pleasant stay! Recomending! 

Stayed two nights in the old historic Rhodes hotel , still filled with all period furniture and furnishings . 
It’s like it been stuck in time from ages ago.
The hotel is clean and well looked after but showing signs of typical lack of money ( and guests) in Zimbabwe, with shortage of basics inc some foods and drinks.
Our reservation wasn’t on their books but not being busy we’re quickly given a great large room, with 4 poster bed and old fashion furnishings . 
Lack of guest was evident when we decided to have afternoon tea but there were no fresh cakes or sweets to enjoy . However the staff were forever trying to assist and wiped up the most amazing scones I’ve ever eaten. 
Meals times were similar- lacking some basics but what we did get was delicious. 

For the price paid the hotel was great value and the stay was enjoyable taking into account the lack of tourism in the area.
Don’t expect first class  but relaxed basic environment with friendly staff. They even suggested some great local places to visit. 
The gardens and surrounding are fantastic , with local trout dam and national park on its doorstep. 
The hotel also includes a museum dedicated to Cecil Rhodes memorabilia.

Peacefull place to enjoy

A bit of a facelift and good maintenance will definitely bring this place up to it’s former self. It’s a very charming place with pleasant staff. location is good and easy access into Nyanga National park. Driving around in the park can be a challenge if you don’t have a 4x4 vehicle with good ground clearance especially rainy season. Otherwise it’s a nice place to relax. 

Vacation 

Loved going here as a kid. But my last visit a lady decided to watch a rally on her phone full blast during  supper time in a place full of people. The waiters did nothing we had to approch the woman ourselves.
The tables for breakfast were not cleaned after people left we ate in a room that had tabels still with unfinished  meals.

These are little things that can easily be fixed. Please work on those see you next time

Can improve

We popped in here for lunch after a visit to the National Trusts’ fascinating museum. A rather sad toasted sandwich which had absorbed the dressing from the almost inedible salad. However the chips were excellent!  We were charged €9 for each rock shandy (lemonade, soda and bitters) which we thought extremely steep, particularly as they had run out of bitters.  It’s a stunning location with a beautiful view and gardens. Sadly lacking investment due to lack of tourism in the area.

A disappointing lunch

If looking for a clean, old fashioned place to stay, with a Food & Bev selection from the 80's then look no further.Mixed bag team of staff range from pleasantly competent right across to the hopeless
