We only stayed one night with a camper.  The staff was very nice and helpful and even let me borrow a sheet when I realized my camper was missing one.  The common spaces were inviting and friendly.  The bathrooms were clean and I appreciated the shelves where you could share things you no longer need.

We stayed at the campsite of the facility and we have no words to describe how clean, warm and comfortable the whole campsite was. Spacious kitchen where 6 different people can cook in comfort at the same time. Cleaner than all the other campsites, since cleaning people were coming often to clean the mess up. Spacious tables in a nice environment in order to enjoy your meals and relax. Toilets also clean, many units so that you don’t need to wait much and also paper and hand soap included, which I find very important. By far the best campsite in Iceland.

My 18 year old son and I had a great stay! I was able to do our laundry onsite and visit the community pool and hot pots (ahhhhh!) right next door. We felt safe and secure with the access codes and loved the overall vibe of the urban campsite. 

INDIE CAMPERS rental. Where to start....the original location was moved without prior notice. Thanks to a taxi driver we managed to find it: no one present. After calling we were told the van was not ready antill after 19:00, 9 hrs after booking time. Hanging a day at a industrial area was no option so we drove by taxi to Reykjavik: €120 one way so €240. Gariela by mail: Please send us the receipt for the taxi expenses, we will refund them. It never happened......Finally at the pick up the check in was in a rush to get out so the van introduction took exactly 3 minutes… in the dark.
Upon driving of one of the headlights was not working. The check in lady did not answer the phone anymore.
We lost half a day of our vacation plus we had to spend 2x 18.000 crowns Reykjavik v.v. and a lunch in town. Costs we have yet to get reimbursed. 
The left headlight does not work. It is simply dangerous to send your clients on the road like this. To get it fixed = spend too much valuable vacation time lost already. 
One pillow is missing. We have one person IKEA summer duvet, too cold for Iceland in April. One pan is missing, only the lid is there. One full set of (paid!) travelkits was missing completely.
We had to drive back 1,5 hrs to Reykjavik to buy a pillow and the rest. Another half day lost and unnessesary costs made.....
The heater did not work . It blows hot air and next cold or in any sequence it wants but not as it should. All we get is 'a manual'  which covers none of the issues. Completely useless.  (10:36:15 PM) Joana Machado: Turn on the engine for 10 minutes without driving and after that turn on the heating - it's normal if it smells like diesel do not worry. 
The spare  heater in the back had a burn out some time earlier.  It is molten and it smells like plastic when you turn it on. It is simply dangerous and can cause fire.
The fresh water tank is filthy. It's not hygienic. Look at the pics. Disgusting. The curtains are really too dirty to touch. To get in the upper bed we are supposed to work ourselves 1.5 mtr up without any step or ladder. A small ladder or so would have been nice especially for elder people like us. We had to buy a step at Ikea to solve.
The overall cleanliness of the camper is dirty, ....to say the best.
We got tired of solving problems and returned the camper. We had to rent a car to finish our ruined trip. We made a more than fair offer to settle things but Indie Campers would not hear of it. We were send home with 50% of the costs we made. The rent per night: a ridiculous 442€/night

What a sad, sad performance by Indie Campers. Mishaps can occur…but at least have the decency to offer a compensation less insulting for your clients.  


During our trip this campsite had the most amenities which makes sense being in town. The is a flat section for camper vans and RVs and a separate section for camper vans and tents. We spend out first and last nights here and didn’t realize that first night that camper vans can park in the grassy area which is a little cheaper.

Use their website to book your spot when you arrive. 

They have hot showers, lots of bathrooms, lots of cleaning sinks, cooking facilities, inside seating. They were lots of shared food products in the kitchen. 

In the area there is an arboretum and a zoo. Also some restaurants in walking distance. If you drive to dinner or the sites just leave a chair or something to mark your spot.

They is the pool/hot tubs next door. It was out least favorite town pool just because of the crowds.

This is definitely a good spot to kick off your trip and get your food nearby at Bonus

We lived a few nights at the Dalur hostel and on the territory of Reykjavik Campsite. Very cozy environment and all necessary service. All changes of employees were extremely caring and attentive. Guys will definitely help and try to answer your questions. I can definitely recommend this location. Special thanks to Max.

When I started planning my trip to Iceland, I was unsure whether camping would be a viable option, as I wouldn't be renting a car and would be relying completely on public transport to get around. I was so delighted when I found out there was such a lovely looking campsite so close to the city and with access to busses. I couldn't be happier with my stay- the facilities were great, and it meant that myself and my friend were able to spend just €500 for a 4-night trip (flights, food ect included). I recommend this to anyone who enjoys camping, or to anyone who wants to do their trip on a budget- even if a bit unsure about camping.

We stayed here unexpectedly on the last night of our recent trip after an iffy weather forecast drove us back towards civilisation early. It was more expensive than other sites we'd stayed at but worth it. I assume this is just a winter thing due to banks of snow around the facilities but we were given access to the facilities in the hostel - great! We were able to have lovely hot showers,  cook tea in the kitchen and borrow some ketchup for the hot dogs we'd been carrying round all week! The local pool is right next door too and it is close to the centre of Reykjavik.

The campsite is very well situated, next to a public pool (must go!) and not far from downtown. We had lots of fun by meeting people from all over the world, and we appreciated the community aspect of it such as food sharing etc. The only thing if that if it gets too busy no more tables are available to sit down and eat. but owerall it's great and fun!

This is a very large campsite and hostel a few kilometres from the city centre of Reykjavik. There are two zones (A & B) with different combinations of tent, camper and RV zones with and without electricity. You can make stay reservations online to reserve around a 10% discount. Both zones share a large communal area with toilets, (free) showers, cooking area as well as indoor and outdoor seating. 

There is a separate toilet and shower facility in the back of Zone B. You'll find a Fish & Chips food truck on the Zone B grounds as well as a bar and eatery called Dalur at the hostel also found north side of the campsite grounds. 

Campsite space is large, Zone A is lot style with vehicles parked next to each other in several rows. Zone B is a large grass area for tents and vehicle park space on the sides. 

You can walk to the main sightseeing area of Reykjavik in around 30-40 minutes. There are a couple public bus lines that do pick-up/drop-off not terribly far from the grounds as well. There is a small Krambúðin supermarket around 500 metre walk and a larger Bonus and Netto probably 1.5 km away. 

Overall, we found our stay at the Reykjavik Campsite to be pretty good. It is a good place to start or stop your longer trip around the country. We'll probably do so again next time we can visit Iceland.

Large campsite in Reykajavk, convenient for start and end of Iceland trips

Clean, warm and comfortable campsite

The Reykjavík Campsite is the only option for camping in the city of Reykjavík. They have the ability to book on-line and I recommend you take advantage of this as they have limited check in hours. We arrived at 1pm and even though someone was at the desk in the hostel we were directed to use on-line booking since campsite check-in hours didn't start until 3pm. They did offer a discount for booking on-line however my credit card company wanted to text me a confirmation code to book on-line. I was using Wi-Fi only in Iceland so I had to cut my phone on, which cost me $10, just to receive the code to then confirm the reservation. Once the reservation was confirmed I received two emails, one of which contained our key code to access the campsite, bathrooms, etc... You pull in, pick your spot in a row based on your vehicle type and set up. The key code gets you access to all of the amenities like kitchens, bathrooms, rec room, etc... The facilities were nice with lots of bathrooms and a large communal kitchen and gathering areas. There were also free shelves of items that previous campers had left behind. We ventured out into the city for the day but be advised that it's about a 30 minute walk, each way, to reach the more touristy areas of the city. Compared to other campsites in the country it is pricier, $26.03USD, per adult, but it was overall convenient with nice facilities.

Convenient to Reykjavík

Can book online or first come first serve via QR code at entrance. Beautiful property with well maintained amenities. A little more expensive than the more rural campgrounds we stayed at in our van, but last minute it was great! Quiet and had a good night of sleep. Will have to try the pool next time!

We drove to the Reykjavik campsite for our last day in Iceland but we were caught out with timings. All the other sites we had visited we could turn up at any time, but this one doesn’t let you in before 13.00hrs and if leaving you need to go before 11.00hrs, unfortunately we arrived 2hrs before we could park up. This wasn’t a major problem as we drove to the Perlan to spend a few hours, but something to be aware of. Probably our least favourite campsite as if was kind of like camping in a car park, but the location makes up for it.
