Hotel Posada Las Campanas

This is a clean, comfortable hotel in a great location, a few blocks from the center of Dolores Hidalgo. I walked 6 blocks or so from the bus station and found it easily. Staff spoke only Spanish so be warned. I paid about $25 USD each night. Room was similar to a US motel but had plenty of space. There was a very sunny patio outside, so it helped to light up the room. Shower was good but the bathroom was a little small. There was a sign about breakfast but I didn't seen any evidence of one. There was wireless internet available around the lobby only. Staff were smiling and friendly, as were most people  in the town. DH is a small town, so there is not a huge number of attractions/distractions for tourists.

Great location

Who knew it could get this cold in Mexico?  Not this little black duck.  3 Celsius, about the same as home in B. C.  Nice little hotel, very friendly staff, excellent breakfast and nicely located.  Would happily stay there again.  They turn the hot water off during the day, turning it on in the evening and off again all night and back on at 6:45.  Very clean, bathroom dark as per most interior Mexico hotels are and lots of blankets, a pleasant change from some places we stay here.  Priced right, inexpensive and nice.  The town of Dolores Hidalgo is pleasant, lots of history and good restaurants, hotel is an easy walk from bus station.  While we were there there was a portable ice rink set up for public skating, with a few guys standing around with hockey bags waiting to get on the ice after public skating.  Hard to believe, just like small town Canada.  I rate this hotel at 3 bubbles not because it is crummy or dirty but because of the hot water issues.  Once you are aware of the cause you can easily work around it.  As stated earlier, I would stay there again.  On checkout guests are given ceramic bowls as a thank you gift, awkward on a bus but heartfelt.  Nice Place.

Darn, it is cold!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for two nights. We had not heard of this hotel before, but were directed to it by another hotel's receptionist because that hotel was full.

The hotel is two blocks away from the center of town, so it is not right on the main park but within easy walking distance of all the main attractions.

There is a restaurant in the hotel that serves breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. (the second morning, we arrived for breakfast at 10:15 and found the restaurant closed already). For $49 pesos, you have your choice of scrambled eggs with ham and refried beans or chilaquiles with refried beans along with a buffet of juice, coffee, cereal, milk, fruit, and pastries.

The hotel also has a small bar off the lobby as well as a roof-top patio on the second floor.

The receptionists and staff were very friendly and helpful. We only spoke Spanish, so I don't know if any of the staff speak English.

Our room (number 4), next to a pleasant, sunny patio, was clean and roomy. It had two double beds, a nightstand, and a good-sized dresser with plenty of drawers. In addition, there was a small closet with hangers (not all hotels in central Mexico have closets or hangers).

We had a telephone and color television with cable.

The bathroom was adequate and there was plenty of hot water with good water pressure in the shower. The towels were rough and thin and rather small. There were only two towels provided, though I'm sure we could have obtained more if we'd asked.

The hotel provided filtered drinking water from a dispenser close to the lobby.

We had a problem with bees in the room (they were active at night...not their normal behavior). The first night, there was just one bee. The second night, we killed four or five. At midnight, we called the front desk and asked to change rooms.

We were given another room two doors away. No evidence of bees in the second room. This room had a ceiling fan, which we didn't know the hotel had. 

All in all, we had a pleasant stay and would choose this hotel again. (The staff assured us that our first room would be fumigated immediately, but we will choose a different room in the future!).

After arriving back home, I checked the hotel's web site. The Spanish option works fine, but only the main page on the English option works.

Pleasant, comfortable hotel

Basic hotel. Clean, pleasant place. But door locks are also basic. Used a wooden wedge to ensure inoperable from the hall. Close to the main square. Limited restaurant choices in the town. A number of banks nearby with ATMs.
