I don't know about how bad this place used to be in the past, but according to the reviews, it seems like a really bad place to stay.
But now that I'm staying here for a week, most of the things are good enough to not deserve such this bad reputation.
The hallway is well-decorated, the bathroom is clean, the room is beautiful and fully-stuffed, and everything is good and clean. The only problem is the WiFi; it disconnects by itself often, and it's a bit slow.
Overall, it's One of the Best Hotel in Kampong Cham Province.

One of the good hotels, if not best, in town

DURATION: 1 night (that's enough)
TYPE: Standard
DEMO: Mid to late twenties couple

PRO: Great WiFi (room #126). Big windows, lots of light. Many TV channels. Decent location, near bus terminals. Nice staff. Breakfast provided. Crazy cheap price. Bathroom slippers provided. Motorcycle rental available ($6/day). Restaurant available on the property.

CONS: Fake eyelashes and stains on the bathroom rug. Ants crawling all over the floor. A/C unit drainage leaks all over the bathroom floor. Shower is located directly over the toilet. Very loud music from the wedding / club below. 

Wouldn't stay again

By far the worst hotel we stayed in during a month of travelling round SE Asia. We don't have high expectations of hotels in this part of the world- read my other posts- they are largely positive. But this was just dreadful- and the most expensive hotel out of the 10 we stayed in during our trip around the region.

The receptionist was so rude it as actually funny. He ignored us for a good two minutes until he felt like registering our presence when we first arrived. After checking us in he didn't bother to tell us about the tokens we needed for the breakfast we'd already paid for, or where to get it- we only stumbled across this information later when we asked what time it was served. He assigned us a room on the forth floor without any offer of helping us with our heavy backpacks, and there is no lift. We asked him for a map which he said he didn't have. We asked him where the bus station was and couldn't get any more from him than "not far". It wasn't for lack of English speaking skills on his part- he just couldn't be bothered to tell us!

Upon entering the room we were met with a bag of assorted pills and used make up, presumably left by the former occupant. It was clear the room hadn't been cleaned and worst of all, was swarming with ants! Ants that found their way into my bag and were still there when I was halfway to Battambong. 

Music from the wedding next door started up at a ridiculously loud volume at about 4pm and continued unabated until we left the hotel at 7am the following morning- thank God we had only planned to stay there for one night!

 We got the strong impression that we were not welcome as Westeners. Perhaps these people shouldn't staff an international hotel if that's how they feel.

To reiterate a previous reviewer- avoid like the plague! Unless you are doing some research for a Khmer version of Fawlty Towers.

Laughably rude staff, insanely loud music and ants crawling everywhere!

This hotel was really dirty and the sheets were threadbare, when I arrived there were people all sitting on the floor in the corridor, with the room I was going to open for them to use the bathroom. The bathroom was a all in one shower, toilet and basin all combined, and the shower was leaking, so the floor n the bathroom was constantly wet. Then with the karaoke bar next door and condoms available on reception counter, we figured it was a brothel as well, so needless to say I slept in my travel sheet.

Dirty

Ok, we stayed here with a group...and the rooms were terrible even dangerous. 
One couple of the group did find some rat excreta on the floor, which was very disgusting of course. Most of the rooms were very dirty, a lot of mold in the bathroom etc. But my room, was top!
You have to look at the pictures to believe it. The bathroom door wasn't in wood anymore but from top too the foot in mold. It wasn't brown anymore but white (indeed the mold). It was very unhealthy. Now believe me, I know it is Asia, but I was three weeks in Cambodia, stayed in cheaper hotels then this one, who were much more cleaner!! But it' wasn't the mold which made me very grrrr.....but the situation of the bathroom, it was actually very dangerous. The electricity cables were naked, hanging just next to the shower. So one little splash when I took my shower and I could have been electrocuted! Watch the pictures to see and believe.
So...I changed twice a room (yes my second room was exactly the same state.....), my third room was ok.....clean and safe. But I don't think it's responsible of the hotel to have these rooms in such a bad shape!!
