We did extensive research before staying at Pension Armelle and we were not disappointed. We stayed at Pension Armelle for a week and we really enjoyed our time at this hotel. This is a small and simple pension but offers all that you need for a pleasant stay in Tahiti. Our room was large and comfortable, quiet, and also had a large open patio with comfortable seating to relax in the evenings.
Its beach front location is superb - situated on what we regard as one of the best beaches on Tahiti. It has excellent swimming and snorkeling and the Pension provides free kayaks and paddle boards for their guests. Its view towards Moorea and the stunning sunsets are fantastic.
The pension is close to and within walking distance for stores and restaurants as well as a good supermarket where you can buy food for picnics etc.
The pension restaurant is very good. We ate at their restaurant every night and enjoyed a variety of well prepared dishes - as good or better than surrounding restaurants and much cheaper. Every day there is a different plat du jour at a reasonable price. Equally their beer and wine prices are also good.
We also took advantage of using one of their rental cars to explore the island - available right at the pension for a reasonable price. 
When we left for the airport they provided transport - using one of their rental cars - at an excellent price even though it was very early in the morning.
Tahiti is expensive but if you are looking for a good place to stay right on the beach and at a reasonable price then the Pension Armelle is where to stay.

A small pension in an excellent beach location with a good restaurant

THe worst of all: grumpy owner and unhelpful staff. Several times "what do you think this is? a hotel?... and other rude comments when asking about how to get a taxi, if the kitchen is open and so on.
Owner sits around looking miserable and making you feel as a disturbance... 
No help to get a taxi, had to get out on the street and wait ages.
Bedroom toilet wall just half way, no privacy. Old fashioned furniture.
THe entire building smells of old sweat.
WE left the place feeling we had arrived to "nightmare Polynesia" just to discover paradise outside.
Really: do not waste your time and money in this place, it is horrible.

If you are looking for a place to feel at home, enjoy great food and have an stunning beach pretty much for yourself, look no further. Armelle, the owner, and her family bring the character to this place that without being luxurious, is nice, clean, well maintained and has everything you need to enjoy a relaxing vacation in Tahiti. 
Impressive is the quality of the food that the restaurant offers. For un unbeatable price, you can have a plat du jour that was every single time generous and delicious, while enjoying a beautiful view of the lagoon and Mo'orea from the restaurant balcony. At breakfast (included) homemade confitures of island fruits and fresh bread is provided. 
The pension provide a range of services including kayak and paddle board rental, car rental (cheapest on island) and pick up service from the airport. Bring a mask if you want to enjoy snorkeling is a printine reef. 
However the best of pension Armelle is without doubt the quality of service that Armelle and her family strive to provide. They are a warm and generous family and this is a place where you can feel you have a home on one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Definitely a place to come back or recommend to a friend.

Looking for a place with some character? Armelle's is a family run pension right on the beach, easy access to nearby eateries, grocery store, 1 min walk from the terminus of night bus to Papeʻete (375 XFP fare versus a 3500 XFP night cab one way). You are staying in the midst of a real family environment- they welcome you like family when you need anything, and let you do your own thing otherwise. Walking distance to Sapinus, le Musee des Iles, fresh fruit and fish vendors just next door at the public beach. Delicious daily specials and clean rooms. Nothing against other pensions I've stayed at on Tahiti, but you just can't beat the value here. Tahitian vibe, great location, friendly staff, highly recommended for the traveler with a tight budget and a relaxed spirit seeking some local charm.
