Parque Biologico de Vinhais

Travelling through Portugal in our VW camper we were looking for a place near Vinhais. This place popped up as being open all year , with only 4 camping pitches I’d recommend booking in the season well in advance. We had pick of all 4 pitches Jan 2023. Loved waking up to the sound of the birds and animals… we live in a woodland in the UK so it was like being at home. Reception staff all very friendly and loved the dogs , we have 3 small dogs. The bar was open although I have to say lacks any atmosphere at all, the staff although friendly just sat playing TV and music on their mobiles… while tables were left dirty (from breakfast or lunch) with empty drinks on them, the male staff seem to all get together to have a drink before they leave for home, nice to see… these were the only other customers after 4pm. The ladies loo in the bar area had no loo roll for 2 days. There is plenty of hot water for both washing up and showering. The second night the outside lights for the washing up area had not been left on we had head torches so this didn’t matter. The lodges/small pods seemed to fill up on our second night, great to see other people around, I think it could be quite noisy in the height of season! There are 2 walks very well marked out from the parque and we enjoyed walking with the dogs off the leash as there was no one else using the foot path. We would definitely return and recommend to anyone looking in the area. Say Hi to Boris the Portuguese dog he’s a huge friendly giant 😄
