Palmwag Tzaneen

Palmwag was my home away from home during my trip to Limpopo. It is ideally located to visit the region and Henke and Celia are just amazing, made me feel right at home. Do not pass up the evening BBQ !  Monique JOHNSON

We stayed for four nights at Palmwag. Henk was an amazing host. Who needs the Lonely Planet or internet when you've got Henk? He advised us to have breakfast at Yum Yum in town (great! best cofffee of the trip), visit the nearby waterfalls, go to the Zwakala beer brewery and have drinks at Kings Walden and the Coach House with splendid views. All tips turned out to be great fun. Henk told us a lot about the country - about sports, politics and the area. Also, Henk and his family are amazing cooks. There is no official restaurant, but you can have dinner at Palmwag and it is freshly prepared by either Henk or family members. We had braai, meat pie, traditional dessert and without a doubt the best meat of the holiday: Henk's Kudu fillet. Rooms are clean and big. There is one room with a walk in closet which turns out to lead to the bathroom! Henk lights the fire at nights and there are big tables outside where you can play a game or sit with a drink. The pool is small, not so much for swimming but more to cool off on a hot day. We were here in Winter so did not try. There is also a small pond where you can swim. The geese are noisy and might wake you up at night. Henk has got two dogs, a horse, birds and an ostrich (behind a fence). Family friendly. I would definitely recommend to stay here!

Stayed overnight after a long drive for business. Owner most obliging and nothing is too much trouble.
Very comfortable room, neat and clean.
Phone ahead for any special meals wanted and they will try to accommodate you.
I will be back.

The team are amazing - clean, thatched cottages, lovely social areas beside the pond, access to kitchette. A bit far from the hiking areas, but it was an easy drive. Running amongst banana plantations was just awesome... Well done guys

Nice guest house for a break to visit that area. Not far away from Tzaneen, you will find it google maps only. Other navigation apps not. The way description from the owner is also good. The offer for braai is good. He cooks well and the sitting is perfect.
Good starting point when do you want to do some hikes in the hills or falls in that area.

Great little oazis to water your camel

We stayed at Palmwag on our way to a business appointment in the Tzaneen area. The rooms had strong odours of old tobacco smoke & urine and were dirty with cob webs everywhere. Curtains hung loose, blinds in bathrooms had millimeters of dust and were hanging skew. Fixtures in bathrooms hung loose, cupboards, bathmats and loose carpets hadn't been cleaned in ages.

When we enquired about breakfast (which was included), the host said that they only give yoghurt, fresh fruit and muesli in the summer, but that he should be up by 06:00 and the coffee will be ready by 07:15 (the time we agreed on to have breakfast).

We arrived before 07:00 with NO coffee and NO human being in sight. At 07:20 there were still nobody - just a pair of dirty braai tongs from a previous meal. Just when we were about to leave, the host showed up and said the breakfast would be ready in two seconds. He rushed out with three placemats, threw them with a dessert spoon each on a table - no glasses, cups, anything else. He brought plates with the yoghurt, etc for each (this wasn't too bad), but still NO coffee or any apologies ....and that was that.

No courtesy whatsoever, no apologies - the worst experience of our lives!
